How Do You Save the Life of a Hawk....

Wildlife News

After one last car ride from a rehab center in Lucas to a park in Plano, Harvey the Hurricane Hawk was finally ready to fly free.

The young Cooper's hawk took refuge in a Houston taxicab as the storm swirled into Texas' Gulf Coast in late August. Her story went viral after the cab's driver, William Bruso, posted a series of videos of the hawk on YouTube.

She was taken to a rehabilitation center in Houston, then transferred to the Blackland Prairie Raptor Center in Collin County. After getting a clean bill of health, she was loaded into a small travel kennel, placed in the back of a Subaru and carried to Plano's Oak Point Park and Nature Preserve on Wednesday.

Bruso, the cabdriver, made the trip from Houston just to send Harvey off.

"Hey girl, look at you," Bruso cooed as the bird was pulled out of her kennel. "She has no idea she'll be a free woman today."
