A magpie arrived to inspect the nest while Mom and Dad were away. For such a nuisance bird he is beautiful with that long tail.

Mom has been busy bringing in the grasses for the bowl. The nest is the same size as always. They have built up the space over the near edge and the support pole to accommodate what appears to be the usual size bowl. There is just that empty area on the far side. Which is not a bad thing for two reasons. It keeps the potential activity closer to the cam - no headless O's and more area for the chicks to walk and stand before they can fly.




PS: I am having a problem with the computer that I run the EnMax O's on. I may have to take it in for repairs.

You got to have faith in the osprey,
they always figure something out.

We, on the other hand.....are always,
full of doubt.

Good Morning

Sorry to hear you're having computer problems BET. I hope it's nothing too serious.

On a different subject, Iwas hoping Enmax would have changed the clock by now but maybe the message didn't get passed along to the right person.

6:40 a.m.

Not long after this shot Dad flew off and Mom left about 15 minutes later.

7:04 a.m.
Two City workers walked down the trail and then came back carrying what looked like red fencing but kept on walking out of view. Either they changed locations to work or still gathering equipment from the other day.
The nest is empty at the moment.


7:19 a.m.
Dad had been in to drop off a long white stick and then flew off.
Meanwhile a magpie stopped by to check things out and he left just a split second before Dad returned with another stick.

8:03 a.m.
Nest building continues..... I haven't begun to keep track of how many times they've been in and out this morning, but as far as I can see the nest is probably ready for eggs any time Mom is ready to lay them.
April 25th is the earliest date for laying that I have found in our archives. BET, do you happen to have any record of the egg being laid before that date ?


Fluffy grass added to the bowl. I wonder if they have been stealing straw from the animal enclosures at the zoo ?

Judy, I emailed my contact and then the general Osprey Camera email regarding the time as well as the cam view. It's just being ignored - as they always seem to do. It seems they have 3 or 4 set dates that they do something with the camera i.e. start it, change view for hatching, change view for larger chicks and that is it. They don't or won't do anything else.

Since the nest activity is pretty boring in that so far today it has been limited to bringing sticks grass and fish
I was looking back at so old files.

Its now 1812 hrs. Wife (Sheila) daughter (Jeanette) & I just returned from a visit to the nest site. We parked in the zoo parking lot off St. Georges drive and walked on the bicycle path along nose creek. It was just a short walk & we were close to the nest. We watched daddy-O deliver a couple of sticks, the first one he dropped just short of the nest. He landed on the nest & we could hear them calling to each other. A few minutes later he took off again & went searching for another small stick which he successfully landed this time. I wondered why he didnt go get the one he dropped but I suppose he can get it any time. There was a cool breeze while we were there, about 1650 to 1710, then a slight sprinkle of rain shortly after we got back to the car.
