Both had been off the nest for a bit. Then they came flying in together. Dad with a stick and Mom with a clump of seaweed looking mess that she dropped on the far rim.

And I am going to crash for a bit. Oh as I was getting ready to post this, both returned to the nest and this time the claiming appeared to be an actual mating. The rear was facing away so it was hard to tell, but it ended with Mom's tail in an elevated position.

***I wish someone had removed that large log from the nest. It has the box divided in half & the O's seem to be trying to build on one side only so it's hanging out over the box. I'm sure they'll manage to work around it but it must be a nuisance to them.

Good Morning All

Ernie, I agree that large branch looks like a problem and I am surprised Dad hasn't tried to move it by now.

6:15 a.m.
Both arrived to the nest, Dad arriving a second before Mom.


Mating took place


6:27 am
Mating for a second time.


Mom then commenced working in the nest as Dad perched on the far rim. Not long before he flew off and Mom perched on the rim watching the river area.

...and I must go. My weekend company is on it's way so I must get things done around here before they arrive.

They are through! They are removing the big plates that protected the path and the down slope to the river from damage by the heavy equipment

I've noticed that Mom and Dad frequently stand together on the near side watching the environment. Their heads often seem to work in synchronization.

***I'm not sure they could move it. Certainly not now that they have started construction on top of it. They probably think it is part of the nest structure anyway. I'm hoping the nest will eventually spill over onto the other side, if not it may be too small for a family with 3 chicks.

Every year Enmax leaves a stick or two in the nest. They are wired in place and are there to discourage geese. I think the stick was larger this year.
