SWFEC Nest Notes

May 24, 2016

Discovery and Freedom

Eagle Life continues to unfold for Harriet and M15’s family. E7 is amassing a long list of valuable accomplishments under the watchful eyes of Mom and Dad. E7 practices long flights away from the pasture following Mom and Dad on adventures to “Yonder Pond” and beyond. Daily exploration has allowed E7 to discover the feel of solid ground and the refreshment of water at the pond. E7 successfully captured a crow to show Mom and eat at the nest tree. Dad and E7 battled over a fish and E7 displayed fierceness in winning the prize. E7 is armed with many survival skills and will soon be off on the journey to freedom and more discoveries of the ways of the Eagle.

E8’s journey takes a new direction in the care of a wildlife facility. After E8 was attacked by an owl and disappeared for nearly week, brave rescuers found E8 in grave condition. E8 is making healthy strides and healing with help of the staff at CROW. The road to recovery may be long for E8 but there is confidence that Harriet and M15 have raised strong eaglets capable of survival amidst the perils of the wild.

We as humans have natural curiosity of all things in nature and cameras allow glimpses of the beauty and the struggles of wildlife. We are hopefully learning to be conscious of our contributions and are becoming better stewards of nature and it's preservation.

NEST ACTIVITY CONTINUED

10.04 E7 fly off to the right from where perched

10:04 E7 flies where the vultures are soaring and starts soaring higher and higher going farther and farther east.

10:10 E7 became a speck and then out of sight. Be safe E7.

wskrsnwings:
10:13 I am headed home.

Someone posted a photo of who they think is H and M at the Franklin Lock. I think that is about 10 miles away from the nest area. Not sure it is H and M. Maybe another pair.

1:20 no Eagles found by the cam at YP.

3:30 looked like adult or E7 flew into Mom's treemat YP.

There's an adult on the porch in the nest tree 3:51

And the adult just took of towards the pasture pond.

Adult made no vocals at all. Crows were on it while in the nest tree and when it flew off to the pond.

4:03 Adult may be in the tree that is Mom's favorite.

Some of the crows are so big they looks like E7 from far.

4:12 The other adult arrives. Did they fly off?

Whoever that adult was that was across the street looked like it had white on the wings when it flew off, strange.

4:17 just saw a dark large bird just above the h and e in pritchett. Just above and between the two letters. See them?

I see adult now 4:25pm

4:30 Looks like both adults are there one is in the tree branches farther.

4.50 one adult went further into the brush of the tree, barely see head now.

Easier to see with cloud cover.
Oh so much easier. Yonder pond is a "killer" filming into the sun.

5.24 2 adult there for sure, side by side
Thank You SWFEC TEAM for all your observations!!

I kind of doubt Harriet & M15 would be almost 10 miles away at the Franklin Lock.

wave E7 had an "air" of calm and independence about him this am. E7 watched but did not seek Mom out, tried to snag another crow and seemed to be vocalizing to another juvenile nearby. When E7 flew off to soar with the vultures, circling and circling... was he waving good bye? Be safe and strong, E7. <3

Well kids, we may be watching nest building tomorrow. When the adult flew into the porch this afternoon and E7 didn't come, I thought that E7 may be gone.

Adult in the nest tree and no E7? M15 has not been in the nest tree at night for a few weeks.

After watching this family for so many hours this season, I feel that E7 is one tough Eagle, as is E8.

I'm sad but I am also glad that we have one more American Bald Eagle to continue on with the species.

Fly high and free E7 Sitting eagle
