Whoever just stood on the right side of the nest and did a poop shot over Mom(?)'s head. Wish I could have gotten a s'cap - and it does strike me as a bit impolite.
She then flew off to the right and circled behind the nest.
There's now one osprey on the nest, incubating.

Hi BET - glad you caught that! I don't watch that often, so am not really sure who is who.
(and I corrected the times in my posts today - was in a hurry, and keep forgetting how wide BC is.)

Edited again to correct the spelling of osprey, which (having a case of autopilot) I had misspelled as eagle.

2:35 to 2:50pm MDT

A third O landed on the nest - I am guessing female, size, head, and chest markings. So similar to Mom that all I can determine so far is a slight variation in the top portion of the back skull mark and maybe a bit lighter chest marking.

Dad went on wing spread alert before and when she landed (Cam transmission so jerky hard to follow well)

Mom, brooding stood up. Dad at back of nest and visitor, left front stood and watched.


Mom flew off.


Dad moved into brood, visitor watched

Part II 2:50pm MDT

I had to watch my video clip three times to try to get this straight

Visitor stayed at left front of nest. Dad had taken up brooding. Suddenly Dad took off


Visitor stayed left front, Mom flew in instantly after Dad took off


Mom took up brooding, Visitor stood and watched. Almost as if trying to learn what she was doing and how it was done.


Visitor stood there for a bit longer and then took off.

There has been a couple more switches while I figured this out. I will admit, I really could not tell you which female is which except the visitor did not try to take over brooding. Will she?

Well, maybe it was Dad brooding and Visitor watching with him as Dad left and Mom landed and took up brooding.

HELP Someone put colored paint marks on their heads.

Dad and Mom both staying on the nest watching the surrounding sky.

I was trying to be diplomatically humorous regarding your calling them eagles!

I seen this happen at Loch Lowes nest and ask team osprey about it and if this could be one of Ladys' offspring - juvenile that returned to old homestead. The ranger thought it was a good possiblity for a juvenile to do this, though eventually Mum will send her packing elswhere.
It look like the same female landing on the nest a few times and there wasn't any show of aggression towards other osprey other than one time I seen Lady spread her wings, there wasn't any brisk flapping or high alarm calls.
I think you're shots of all three on the nest doesn't show any aggression between them either. Great shots BET

3:30pm MDT or thereabouts

All I know for sure is Dad was brooding. A female was standing at theside of the nest. Both were watching the surrounding sky. Suddenly Dad stood up and there was a flurry of wings from both on the nest.


Dad left leaving a female, that from further behaviour turns out to be Mom. An Osprey comes in to land on back of nest and Mom attacks with wings out - can not see the talons, but posture doesn't indicate talons being used



Inbound Osprey decides leaving is the better part of valour


Mom then begin moving a few sticks around the nest perimeter and then settled down to brood.

5:00pm

I left for a bit. Came back to find the cam image frozen with 3 O's on the nest again.



Reloaded and there were only two. Did anyone capture or note what transpired?


Have to leave again for a bit so hope somebody is watching and will take notes.

I was trying to finish a project for work, watching the Lake Barkley Kentucky osprey nest where a crew with a bucket truck was untangling one of the chicks from some wire, then removing all three briefly for health check and banding (with some concern that the oldest chick, who had been tangled since Monday, might need rehab but fortunately all is OK) - and then saw a third osprey arrive when I thought you and jkr were both off line.

So I dashed to do a quick series of posts - and clearly didn't read them very well.

I do post about eagles a whole lot more than osprey - and almost always spell "next" as "nest" - it does get tricky.
