9:22am..........wave..Good morning Bev, Dan, Rita and all HM friends! How nice it is to know Pa was in the nest again this morning! I do think they both stay around the area but the area is so big that they have lots of places to be! I wouldn't be surprised if one of the ones we saw yesterday was Ma or Pa, out over the water, high up in the sky..............just soaring and fishing.

Here is the approximate location where the eagles were soaring yesterday...............there were 5 of them at one point, but mostly we would see them as singles, doubles or 3. Too bad our cams can't go up and way out there............I know you would see some eagles if we could zoom that far and high up! They flew above the mountains, up in the sky.

There is no one in the nest at the moment. Egg is alone.

Volunteers do not necessarily have the time;............they have the heart..........Elizabeth Andrew

Bev, I also think that Mom's nearby and that everything is going fine. One thing I need to remind myself from time to time is that I don't think the eagles sit on the eggs with an expectation that they will soon have little chicks - I think when conditions are right (hormones, angle of the sun?), if they see an egg, they incubate it, because that's what thousands of years of instincts tell them to do. When all goes well, after 5-6 weeks, they suddenly discover one or more little peeping things in the nest - and they feed and brood the little chicks.

I'm convinced they do have feelings - many pairs seem to react to the loss of an egg or a chick in a way that I'd call mourning, though they move on rather faster than I do as a rule. But I don't think they anticipate, or look forward to the next stage of the process - I think they live in the moment, and until now, Dad's moment has been that there's an untended egg in his nest, so he should incubate it. Mom's instinct to incubate may be more tied to her hormones, and I'd expect those started gradually changing when the eggs were laid.

But all that's just a guess on my part

As Jean said, all of the photos are in the Lunch with the Bunch thread here:

forum/viewtopic.php?topic=669813#669813

However I thought these should be posted here in the HM nest thread as well since we don't have a separate thread for ground observations as we do in some of our other nest threads.

We stopped along side green #14, which is one of the few spots where the nest can actually be viewed. Here's Linda, Annemie, Brian and Jean having a look.
