Hi Annemie. You are so right. As seen from Martin's last images the remaining chick has almost nothing to lay down on, according to David Hancock, as he also was there at the base of the tree and observed what you are seeing.

I believe it is now up to the Vancouver Parks board to deem it necessary and arrange a rescue and give some additional support to the nest The Park Ranger was at the nest with you guys the other night so he is fully aware of this situation.

Karen, I am sad to say that I have absolutely no faith in those Vancouver parks board guys and believe me, I have my reasons.
That said, Hope has a lot more feather growth then the little guy at O.W.L. fingers crossed

Hi folks wave

I spend some time at the nest again at about 1 pm.
Just as I was leaving to go to the nest, I heard very loud screaming outside my door that sounded like a duck and some wild unknown animal from the Jungle.
I ran outside and saw a cat trying to attack Twotone, which is our little wild squirrel that comes and visits us for peanuts.
The cat took off when she saw me, but Twotone was hyperventilating and shaking.
It took her a couple minutes to calm down, poor little soul, and then she grabbed a plastic bag that was under the bush and tried to take off with it.
I don't like the combination of plastic bags and animals so I grabbed the bag.
Twotone and I then had a tug of war and I won because the bag ripped on Twotones site.
Then I realized that Twotone took that bag from my kitchen. I had peanuts in it.
I did let her have the peanuts.
After I made sure the cat was nowhere to be seen I went to the nest.

As I got out of my car, I saw an adult eagle feather right there, right in front of me.
Thank you Mrs. or Mr. Hastings for the lovely gift I thought.

Anyway, Hope was self feeding and ma was sitting on the baby sitting branch.
Hope can feed herself a little bit, but then always needs help from mom or dad.
Well I thought, at least the little one is learning and has something to pass the time with.
Hope is always well fed and seemed content.
After a little while mom took a little 5 minute flight.
Then Mom came sailing back into the tree and landed on a high branch that was on the very edge of the tree and there for quite thin.
Mom settled on that thin branch like a little ballet dancer.
I saw that she has perfect balance as there was quite a bit of wind. Windy - hold on
Hope was happy to see mom. love
After an hour or so I went home again to do some business.
So all is well right now.
I hope it won't rain anytime soon.
Stan and I will check on the nest again later.

p.s. Have a good holiday Heather, Steward and Jason we'll miss you.

The real test will be tonight during the predicted thunderstorm. The combination of heavy rain and wind could have very bad consequences for what remains of the nest and its last inhabitant......fingers crossed

Hope the Parks Board steps up to the plate if need be as promised and yes O.W.L.'s number should be on every nest watchers cell phone in case of the worst case scenario should happen come Friday morning.

We just wanted to let you all know, that the 3rd eaglet came down a few hours ago. We have her, and she is strong, and not in any danger. We will be posting an update tomorrow with photos. Thank you all again, and we can now rest that the worst outcome has been avoided.
Sincerely,
O.W.L

I am so glad to here that baby # 3 is safe in the hands of OWL. What a horrible nest way to small for 3 babies and bad location. Thank goodness for Owl rescuing those eaglets Smile I am sure all the Hasting Forum people are relieved ....

Mindy.....Did the eaglet fall from the nest or did someone retrieve it from the nest? Your post is a big vague but so happy the eaglet is alive and well.

Well that would explain the hour of searching in vain in my binoculars for our missing survivor Puzzled.........

I saw all the newly broken sucker shoots just up from the bottom of the base of the nest tree and all fresh branches on the ground from the nest and said to myself where's the little one? Don't Panic

What a relief to read this happy news upon returning home! Thank You bless you!

Just feel bad for the Hastings parents who've had one tragic year sigh sign

All considering you have the surviving two which is the best outcome in my view due to the dreadful condition of what remains of the nest.

Not enough words to express the gratitude for what you do at O.W.L. Big hugs

Yes Fisheye I just feel sad for mom and dad.
Folks,
Stan and I just came from the nest.
We were there at 8pm. We could not come any earlier.
We could not see Hope in the nest.
Mom was sitting over the nest and letting it rip every once in a while.
I did not see dad.
Then I phoned O.W.L. owl
I talked to Martina.
Stan and me got the news.
I am relieved that Hope is secure now.
I would have worried every day knowing that Hope was in such an unsafe place.
I am sad for mom and Dad.
Hope will be with Ernest soon and with that lovely foster mom. Sitting eagleSitting eagleSitting eagle
I like that and I like that O.W.L. will give them very good care.
Martina was very caring on the phone.
As for Destiny, may you be in a better place.
We love you Red Heart , all of you three amigos.
