Linda visited the nest again today... and this is what she found.
This fawn was bedded down under the eagle's nest. Mom must have put her down while she went on to graze. Once we saw the baby in this heavy thicket, we backed away and let her be.

Wonderful pictures - thank you, Judy Lynn and Linda!
Amazing to have seen them grow into adulthood and now watch them raise their first chicks.

Looks like one of the chicks fledged today !
I just read this information on the Channel Island Eagle CAM Discussion Forum: Daily Chat.
Peppermint writes:
Casitas eagle takes flight...I'm so excited!!! I just got back from Lake Casitas where Jojoflys, her friend, Lucy, and I just saw one of the eagle kids fledge!!! She/he (we're betting she) completely left the nest from high off the back branch, flew a complete circle around the top of the tree and returned from the back to land back in the center of the nest. TOO exciting for words...exhilarating!! This was all as a parent gazed out over the lake, paying no attention whatsoever. Lucy had her new camera snapping the entire time and we're hoping for at least one good picture to share. We met Lala's brother who drove up as we were getting ready to leave. The sibling didn't look quite as ready but it could happen any day now. After the nest settled back down, the parent left their nearby perch and flew up to the nest to check on them. During the ~4 hours we were there, we saw no food deliveries and no changing of parents. We guess it's not a true fledge since she landed back in the nest and not away from the tree...but it definitely was a full solo flight off and away from the nest. Anyway....on cloud 9!
