Osprey cam is still online, though I haven't seen anyone there any time I've looked.

Continuing to send good thoughts to all people and wildlife being affected by the storm.

There's a wet-looking eagle on the osprey platform. love

I think the black spots in the water behind the platform are ducks or geese or some sort of waterfowl - not everyone minds the extra rain!

From the BW Refuge Facebook Page:

From the Refuge Staff: Blackwater NWR will remain closed on October 30-31. The refuge received 8-9 inches of rain, and due to downed trees on the Wildlife Drive and flooded areas on county roads, the staff members need more time for conditions to allow them to safely remove the trees and inspect the refuge roads and trails. The refuge will remain closed through Oct 31 for all activities and this includes the scheduled Archery Hunt. On Wednesday, the staff will reassess and determine if they will be able to open the refuge to public access later in the week. But the staff report that the refuge faired pretty well overall. Also, note that Eastern Neck NWR is still closed as well.

Technical Alert
We hear from the staff that Blackwater NWR fared pretty well overall during the storm. The refuge will remain closed on Oct. 30-31 as the staff work to remove downed trees and wait for county roads to become accessible.

Two wet eagles at Blackwater! love The second one arrived about 10 minutes ago. At first I wondered if they were friends -

but they've been sharing the space quite companionably after that - perhaps one of them was late for a date. Smile

When I visited Blackwater, the woman at the visitor center told me that the eagles had been removing sticks from the osprey nest, presumably to add to their own nest - and I wondered if I was going to see an example of that -

But they went back to sitting side by side.

I do think someone else is in the neighborhood -

But apparently he or she decided to move on.

It's now 2:25 pm and the one on the left (who arrived first) just flew off, and the one on the right looked as if she(?) was going to make another try to move the big stick in the corner.

And the whole time they were there I was trying to decide who was who - and am still not sure. Titter
