It's a thought, Judi, and I sort of hope that's the case, because it gives hope for next year. Unfortunately I really didn't see a lot of difference in how they handled the eggs than what I've seen with the other pairs. They didn't start incubating right away - but I remember worrying about Delta 2 as I watched the Mom there sit beside the egg much of the night for the first night or two - and both those eggs hatched fine.

It is a mystery, and one that's not likely to be solved unless the remaining egg is still there when David goes to check the cams at the end of the summer.

6:43 am
Mom was on the nest when I looked in around 3 am (6 am my time), and I think she's still there - though I haven't been watching in between so don't know if Dad's taken a turn yet. She looked wet overnight, but seems to be drying off now.

Egg is alone.
I noticed the adult off briefly a few minutes ago, and think it was Mom taking a quick break.
It's now been at least 3 minutes since I noticed that the egg was uncovered.

8:45 am
Adult back - think it's Mom, but not positive.

Adult is home. I think this is Mom again.

I spoke to Ralph (O.W.L.) yesterday. From a ground observer point of view he said that at times it appears that the male has been trying to call the female to leave the nest. Maybe the male knows it's time to move on.

JudiMN, I watched this pair every free minute I had and they seemed to do all the right things. The only real notable difference was that they didn't build up their nest bowl. I hope that is all it was because I am sure that skill will come to them with maturity. I heard that first egg peeping so I know they can at least fertillize an egg. I am hopeful for next year and just hope they don't abandon the nest.fingers crossed

:hello: 9:30 Mom on the nest

I went back into the archives for early Wed morning. Mom settled on 2 eggs between 11:30 and midnight Tues then got up at 1:30 am. At that time only 1 egg is left intact with bits of white in the nest bowl. She picks up a piece of the white with her beak and either eats it or buries it in the nest bowl, not sure, digs briefly into the front of the bowl then resettles onto the lone egg. If you go into the 20 min videos start at the end of the 1:20 video and continue on the 1:30 video. The white bits are best seen on the 1:20, right at the 1:30 area.

10:00 am Mom is still on the nest
