Thanks, Pat and beans.

If the egg was collapsing (I had seen what appeared to be a crack/hole earlier but didn't get a s'cap because I figured it was a shadow), and the adult did the usual snuggling in, and rubbing fairly hard to get good contact with the brood patch, I'd think the egg might have broken into pieces small enough to not be visible after a few additional egg rolls and snuggling in overnight.

So it may indeed have fallen through the nest, in a manner of speaking.

Good work thought still you guys even though we don't get definitive proof. I guess there just always isn't proof to be had

A bit of happier news to share with this forum:

The Norfolk eaglets were getting too big for just dad to maintain their health and as the eaglets hadn't been fed for hours there was concern regarding hydration levels. The eaglets have been rescued and the video is here: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Oe1lRZnr ... r_embedded

Hopefully dad will find himself another mate.

:hello:

3:48 I landed here with intent to learn the archives and see if I could find something to explain the missing egg. A lot of great sleuthing has been accomplished today. Clapping I should have known. Parent, Mom?, sitting wet and patient for about the last half hour. Haven't seen what's under her yet.

I'm going in (to the archives) to see what I can see. :hello:

:hello: I'm back. 4:39 parent still on the nest. Hard to tell who is who with wet hair day.

Back into the archives.

23:31 yesterday 2 eggs visible. Adult nudging the eggs, possible pip side up on one. Adult turning, turning, turning around the nest bowl. Must be Mom.

23:36 Parent slightly up, no view of eggs.

23:46 Parent up again, no view of eggs.

23:43 Slightly up and digging into nest bowl, seeming restless.

23:44 Up, digging again at front of nest bowl.

23:46 Up again, moving, snuggling. Settled facing 11:00, rocking, snuggling.

23:47 Seems settled.

23:50 Settled, facing 11:00.

24:00 Seems to be asleep.

I can't get any archive coverage after this time.

5:01 Meanwhile, parent has left the nest and remaining egg has been left alone for about 20 min.

I have this from 11:45pm MST from last night. The egg structure of the one on the left is fragile as I think was mentioned by Judy earlier. The one on the right appears to be the egg that is currently in the nest.

I'm not sure how to post this pic to the forum post itself...help?.....Got it !
