I don't think I've watched the big-stick-placement process with such a good cam before. I'm learning that Dad is using both his beak and his feet to adjust the stick, carrying it about with his beak, but turning it first with his foot to get it in the proper angle. Interesting!

I think he's now trying to move one of the branches that's built into the tree - but fortunately thought the better of that!

And now he's flown up beside Mom.

One of the adults just left
And a minute later, the other left, making a graceful circle out over the bay before disappearing off to the left.

Someone is perched on top of the tree on the left - not sure if it's a young eagle or a crow - only that it seems dark in color and fairly large. Of course if the tree is closer than I think, it might be a smaller bird than I think. Smile

And whoever it is - it just left.

6:30 am
Good morning!
It's beginning to get a little light - and I'm not seeing anyone in the tree.
I have the cam up - but I am at work, so will be focusing on my work with an occasional glance at the calendar.

FYI - I wrote a bit of a story about what's been happening here for Wildlife News - link is article.php/20110130100410864. It was interesting to see so many different-aged juvies - but I hope this is a more normal week. Smile (Though that is also a version of normal, I guess - but hopefully we'll be seeing more of Mom and Dad - and a few less visitors!)

7:05 am
Trills heard. No one in sight. Nine viewers watching dawn arrive at White Rock! Smile

7:59 am
Didn't get a s'cap, but I just heard some calls, looked up, and saw two adults fly in across the water, looking as if they were planning to land in the upper branches of the nest tree.

I've set up a timeline thread for this nest - forum/viewtopic.php?showtopic=136346.

It's currently locked, and my hope is that I'll be able to add to it at least once a week - and it will provide an index of sorts to this thread, as well as a quick summary of what happened when.

I may well be biting off a little more than I can chew - but with luck this will work! If you see any significant events that I've missed at any point, please let me know! Thanks!
