White Rock 2010/11 ~ Bald Eagle Nest Cam

Hi everyone! I have a request from David Hancock to pass on.

As you may know, the White Rock pair has been busily preparing their nest for the coming season - until the last week or so, when reports of visits went way down. It may be that they've finished their work and are now taking a well-deserved vacation before they lay their eggs (that's my light-hearted guess - not a fact from David) - but David is concerned about their apparent absence and would like to know if they are visiting the nest, how much time they're spending there, and what they're doing.

Because this thread is the primary source of information about activity at the nest, David would appreciate it if those of you posting could do the following when possible:

1) Note the day and time of any s'caps. There is a time stamp in the corner of the cam, so an easy way to do that is to include that when you crop your pictures. However, it does get out of sync with real time after you've had the cam window open for a while - if you see that happening, you can refresh/reload the page to reset it. Or make a note of the actual time when you post your pictures. Important - if you're posting a picture from a previous day, please make sure that is clearly noted - perhaps in bold.

2) As we discovered a couple of days ago, there's a sub-adult in the neighborhood - and it's hard to tell on the WA cam if we're seeing a white-headed adult or the whitish gray of a subadult - so if someone's in the nest and you can get a pic from the CU cam for identification, please do so. I know they don't always stay put while you're bringing up a second cam - but it will help clarify who is visiting, so we appreciate your making the extra effort.

3) It's also important to know that nothing happened - so if you've been watching for two hours and didn't see a single feather - please post something like "It's now 4 pm and I've been watching the WA cam for 2 hours, and didn't see or hear anything." - otherwise we really don't know if nothing happened, or if no one was observing.

To quote Karen Bills, "We truly appreciate those members who are not just watching the cam but making valuable contributions to David's research by posting the observations and screenshots."

Thank you! love

7:25 am

Now that it's light, I'm not seeing anyone perched anywhere in the WA view

I did just see someone soar out over the water and sort of go around the corner to the right - not sure if it was an eagle, or where it came from, though it might be from the trees beyond the nest tree.

7:29 am
Cam just did the recalibration with accompanying sounds that Terry and I were discussing yesterday - good to know it's a normal sound, as it was a bit scary the first time I heard it.

7:37 am - I'm out for a few minutes
7:57 am - back - but working on a project, so not watching constantly

I have been here since 7:45 - and there is no-one home!
Nothing appears to have been added to the nest since the last bit of straw!

9:15 am
Nothing happened since the last post!
(unless they flew in and out while I got coffee)

9:20 am
Flash player packed up on me - again!
What's the betting they arrive while I Install it - again! Sad

Both did a bit of poking around on the nest.

Now one is out on the branch, and the other continues to do a bit of organizing. Haven't seen any major shuffling of branches, more like fluffing up the pillows, so to speak.

9:28 am
The eagle on the branch flew away; the other one is working at a twig sticking out from the trunk of the tree, perhaps trying to remove it. Now the one in the nest is looking off. I'm not sure who is who - my guess is that it's Mom who is still in the nest, but it's a guess.

Hello Everyone,
I have been watching the nest but haven't had the time to post until now.
When I first started watching abut a half hour ago, no one was home.
Then @ 9:21a, one adult flew in.

At 9:23a I observed the other adult join in the nestorations.
