debistl_AEF (Moderator): 9:20 a.m. Romeo & Juliet flew off together, in the same direction, they may be heading to a delightful brunch, or just off to do normal Hamlet eagle duties, Both returned about 20 minutes later 10:08 a.m. Juliet flew and 10:14 a.m. Romeo showed us a nice fly-off

gretchen_AEF (Admin): SUNDAY Tuck-In Report: Juliet was in the nest when we arrived, and 6 deer were in the immediate nest area scampering around. Two young ones where "out of control" cute with such energy. Romeo arrived a bit before 7pm, and they left soon after. We could tell they were heading in the Sleeping Tree direction, and sure enough they were both perched there when we arrived, and likely roosting there for the night (see pic posted above by debistl). Join us for chat in the morning. . .8am! SED Y'all

babyhawk_AEF (Moderator): What to expect! This video from 2016 shows the signs Juliet showed prior to egg laying. Starts @.30 sec mark and @3:15 on , you can see her looking down, ruffling up her back feathers and then shaking a few times. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Lr8zueJ ... kQrN9Jtcvx

More updates
Oct 23, 1:16 PM
sharipf_AEF (Moderator): Chatters have asked if the mating we have seen is just "practice" or real. Generally, eagles may mate throughout the year depending on if the pair migrates. Frequent mating strengthens their bond to each other and increases the chance of fertile eggs; the female generally has a 2 week window during a breeding season where she is fertile. The males sperm is said to be viable inside the female for 10 days. During breeding season, the females pituitary gland secretes a hormone that turns on the ova.
Oct 23, 1:16 PM
sharipf_AEF (Moderator): The ova is turned off by prolactin which is the hormone associated with incubation. So the mating we have been seeing is very real, but the window for a successful mating is roughly 2 weeks.
