Windy - hold onGood Morning to all who love and watch this nest wave
Going to be a windy day today. Sadness today at the loss of the Pittsburgh Hays Nest tree that fell overnight. It appears Mom and Dad are ok, but the egg is surely gone. Mom is due to lay another egg this afternoon/evening as well as our Mom here.. hug

Mother of two eggs at rest

This is great news! I was really worried about them with the wind gusting all night and again during the day, but the nest tree seems pretty sound. I'll be back on in a while to update nightly nest activity. So happy for them!

9:12 PM - She is back down and adjusting nesting material for added insulation.

9:13 PM - All tucked in for a rest. Wind is very mild at the moment, which is a welcome reprieve from this past weekend's dangerous gusts.

A picture of Mom and you can see an indent of her feathers on her chest where her brood patch is.. if she opened her wings we might be able to see it more clearly

a beautiful pic of the nests bole how deep it is with those eggs. The heat that radiates from it will keep the eggs warm for a while. Mom and Dad help to keep the heat contained and add to it with their own body heat. No need to worry about eggs sitting by themselves for a bit.

Nightly peek at the nest:

2:04 AM - Liberty's tucked and resting.

2:06 AM - Now alert, as there have been raccoons in the area tonight. It sounds like they may be passing by the tree again. The geese are also quite vocal just now.

2:08 AM - She's up and rolling the eggs, quick and gentle.

2:10 AM - Snuggled down again and adjusting nest material around her for insulation.

2:12 AM - She's since resumed the tucked position and appears to be trying to get some rest (unlike the geese, who are still rather chatty).

2:19 AM - I believe I just heard Freedom swoop down to perch nearer the nest. Good to know he's keeping watch with those pesky raccoons lurking around out there tonight.

Goodnight and SED, all!
