Congratulations Terri, Kit, and all!

It's wonderful to hear you [and Liberty and Spirit lol] have two eaglets hatched!!

Hi Terri! That is wonderful and amazing news! It's hard to come up with enough superlatives for these eagles.

1. I recorded lay date for the first egg as 3/10/17 when you reported it.

2. We don't know the lay date for the second egg, but it has almost always been 3 calendar days after the first based on previous observations. As such, I have so far assumed a lay date for the second egg of 3/13/17.

3. I recorded 4/18/17 as the hatch date for the first egg when you reported it. That was day 39.

4. You say you are not sure of the hatch date for the second egg? Hatches have been confirmed as far out as three calendar days when the first egg had a "short" incubation period for this nest (like 37 days). Hatches have also been confirmed just one and two calendar days after the first egg hatch when we had confirmed first egg hatches at 38 and 39 days. It sometimes appears that the further out the first egg hatches, the closer the second egg hatches to it, but that's not a solid fact for the few data points that we have.

5. You are the ground observer, so if you would be so kind as to confirm or change Item No.1 through Item No. 3.

6. Please also pick any hatch date and incubation period that you deem appropriate for the second egg and I will enter it into the nest history chart with an "approximate" notation to qualify it.

Yay for Liberty, Spirit and the eaglets! Eagle trills all around!

BravoThanks so much Gary!

Yes, I can confirm #1-#3, those dates are accurate!

As far as the 2nd hatch, from my observations last week, I would say the eaglet hatched sometime Thursday. I saw what looked like an egg roll on Wednesday a few times, but did not see that on Thursday while I was there. So, that would be 38 days for the incubation period if I counted right?

Thank you to everyone who stopped by our Friends of the Redding Eagles booth at the 2017 Whole Earth & Watershed Festival yesterday!

This event just keeps getting bigger & better each year! Kit & I had a wonderful opportunity to share stories and information about our beloved Redding Eagles Liberty & Spirit & their 2 newest eaglets!

Our main goal at Friends of the Redding Eagles and Hancock Wildlife is education and conservation of the bald eagle. That is why participating in events like this are so important!

I think David Hancock said it best in his book, The Bald Eagle...

"It's not until we see how the wild has a meaning and value to each one of us that we can expect each individual to respect that wild. This is conservation." David Hancock

Kit was having a lot of fun giving out our Free Eagle Tattoos to the kiddos, big and small...

She especially liked it when she made it look like our eagle tattoo was catching the salmon tattoo on the kid's arms!
