While I have not seen any osprey in Calgary, someone took a picture of one building a nest north of Edmonton which is about 3 hours north of Calgary. The Ospreys are in Alberta.

Turn on the camera, Enmax. Turn on the camera!

Weds April 13th
Someone posted on Facebook this morning that the Osprey are back at the Zoo and are building on the Tower that was just to the West of where the Platform was originally located. So far the sticks are falling thru (as you can see on the pic) but it is only a matter of time. I have alerted Enmax so they are aware. Apparently the Osprey did try to build at the new location but left. Wonder if the people walking right beside the pathway bothered them. They are not used to such close Human interaction. Assuming this is the same Osprey......

Thanks for posting the sad photo Janet. Cry I hope this isn't our greatest fear coming into being. As soon as Enmax moved the nest I kept wondering if the O's would go back to the tower.
I think you are right that they don't want to use their nest at it's new location due to human activity and I can't say I blame them ----- but Enmax likely anticipated this happening. It was the very reason the nest box and pole were installed on the island to begin with, way back in the day.

I hope someone can get a good picture of the pair so we can identify them as Super Mom and Dad. I would like think it's a different pair but I really have my doubts about that. CryCryCry HankyCry Hanky

Thank you Janet, BET, jkr and Christine....oh no, it's so possible they would do that. They were not used to any sort of human presence and we can imagine it would upset them.
I truly hope this is a different pair on the tower, although, not likely. I wonder if there is any way to discourage them, unlikely as it is.
I will be looking in....

Hi everyone, and thank you Janet

I am in tears and in shock....I just popped down to the viewing area (3-3:25 pm)...all the poplars are gone, west of the poles, looks like a bomb hit......where they used to perch, kids, Mom and Dad.
2 osprey seen ---It's noisy, but one osprey was on top of the tower, the other, I will say Mom was eating a fish on the flat topped pole....like usual....Iím sorry these photos were done with my new phone, so not able to get close enough for ID confirmation......no osprey seen at the platform down the river.
I don't know what to say.....Cry

Sad hug

I just had to go to see ....

one more photo....this shows the area from "fish eating" pole, to the east.....marked the new platform on the far right....I know, you can
barely see it, but hopefully that gives you an idea of that area too....keep in mind this doesn't look like a far ways away, but on foot....its a five minute brisk walk.
this side still has all the tall poplar trees, that run along the bike path and chain link fence beside the zoo property
again, you can see a little better if you double click
