Hi Michelle and thanks for snagging that snap of the lovely greens tonight. The river has been gray so often lately in our dull weather so it was nice to see and lasted so briefly. I also loved the headless osprey in the nest picture
Christine. giggle

Frost time is here already? The summer always seems to fly by and this one was not the best weather-wise though our osprey probably were happier without too many days of extreme heat with the sun beating down on them. Well, past time to hit the hay.sleepy

Good morning Calgary and Everyone.

6:14 a.m.
The current temperature is 3C (37F)

6:38 a.m.
An osprey flew along the river heading west to east but so far no one has arrived at the nest.

6:48 a.m.
The first arrival of the morning .

7:02 a.m.
Already she is in defense of her nest to an unseen entity. She spreads her wings to look big but whatever she thought the threat was must have past by because she settled down within seconds.
I haven't been able to identify which chick this is.

7:23 am
She has been poking about at the stick on the rim. This may be Blaze because I'm not seeing the distinctive squared head markings that Jasper has. She is acting right at home so I doubt if it's the interloper.

7:27 am
She spotted something the SW direction and flew off toward it. I wonder if she saw Dad with a fish ?

8:00 a.m.
Nobody has been back to the nest since Blaze left.

8:01 am
One lone magpie stopped in and left in a rush as another bird flew from the river area under the east corner of the nest. It flew by so fast I couldn't make out if it was another magpie, a crow or some other bird. It wasn't an osprey.

8:22 am
The brown headed magpie has been cleaning up the nest.

8:25 am
A chick arrived and of course I'm away refilling my coffee cup and missed her arrival.

At 8:37 a.m. she is still patiently perched in the same spot and likely waiting for a fish delivery. I don't know if this is the same chick that was here earlier. It so difficult to identify them.

I was thinking last night that even the transients that showed up this year were all female. Where are all the males are this year ?
It makes me wonder if having so many females together has been the cause of some of the fighting we've seen happening ?

9:04 a.m.
She is still on the nest without company. There has been no sign of Dad with a fish delivery yet today.

9:07 am
She took off to the west side of the nest.

Cam check at 12:07 p.m. and the nest is empty.
The sun is sparkling like stars on the river

Added:

It is now 1:08 p.m. and no one had stopped in at the nest.

... Time for me to have my lunch and get ready to head to work.
Have a good day everyone and I hope a chick or two pays a visit to the nest for you.

Hi Judy.Byebye and thanks for all your posts this morning. I looked in quickly just before and after 11:00 am and saw the empty nest with the sparkling water both times.
Thanks for your s'caps, - I'm glad that you saw someone this morning and hope that Dad hasn't left but one of these days that may happen.Sad I have to go out this afternoon too so won't be here to post, lots of items to replace here and shopping is not my forte. I'd much rather be birding!
