6:54 a.m.
Good morning All.

Mom laying content on her egg.
I see we have some type of small red object on the nest. It wasn't in the pictures from yesterday so maybe it's something Dad found this morning. (Adding: it disappeared under the next bark delivery)

Dad arrived with a bit of bark and Mom rises to show us her beautiful egg.
Dad's turn to incubate and she flew off.

You gotta love Dad. He's multi-tasking -- working on a branch while incubating.

Last night after midnight I checked the nest and it is still very lit up through the night. I'm convinced the lights along Memorial Drive and the overpass area are the cause because the lighting does seem to come from somewhere higher than the nest box..

Here's a map so that everyone knows what I'm talking about. I'm sure you Calgary folks know this area well.
The red dot is the nest location.

8:10 am
Dad is suddenly very upset --- an out of view intruder is too close to the nest. He's up and hopefully didn't crack the egg when he stepped on it.

I missed a shot but he flew straight up and after whatever it was, circled around and came back into the nest quickly.

8:11 a.m.
He's still watching the area but has settled back down on the egg.
I wish we knew what it is that keeps intruding on their space.

8:13 a.m.
He is suddenly off again. He took off to the right and then he flew east just below the river bank chasing after someone. It looked like maybe a crow but it was too hard to make out.
.
Mom very quickly arrived to the nest - she came in from the left side.

8:14 a.m.
Dad returned to the nest to join Mom.
Both are keeping a close eye on the area. Mom is standing over the egg but at 8:17 she still hasn't settled onto it.

8:21am
The egg has been exposed to the elements for the past 11 minutes. The way they are standing there it's almost as if they forgot they have an egg to care for.

Finally at 8:22 a.m. Mom starts to settle onto the egg.....no she changed her mind and remains standing over it.

8:24 a.m.
Egg exposed 14 minutes now. I don't suppose cooling the egg this early will do much harm but I'd feel better if she relaxed enough to lay on it. She appears to want to stay on alert in case she has to fly off quickly. Dad is more relaxed -- he's preening.

8:28 am
Still the same scenario. Now I am getting a bit concerned because it's currently only 4C. Why are the two of them so uninterested in laying on the egg ?

8:30 a.m.
Dad flew off. Mom is still standing over the egg. Maybe with him gone she will suddenly decide to lay down.

8:31 a.m.
She pokes about in the bowl around the egg.
FINALLY she settles on it.
Egg was exposed for 21 minutes.

.... I would sit here all morning watching but I really have to get some things done. Hopefully I can watch again before I head to work this afternoon.

Good morning all.wave and thanks Judy for your great coverage this morning. I noticed the red object last night as it was getting dark but had to go out with my son's dog that I am temporarily looking after. No fence here so she has to be walked 4 or 5 times a day and I'll be glad to hand her back to him. Grin

There was nothing eventful that I saw yesterday evening thank goodness. Mom did stand over her egg a short while so she is letting it cool perhaps to have "twins" again. I have faith in Supermom's abilities but you are right, Judy and Michelle it is chilly. Good to see you this morning Michelle, I hope you are feeling better.hug

9:54 am The osprey on the nest just flew down to the river and the egg is again exposed. Back is Mom in a minute looking all around, but then she flies out again. I wonder what is happening here?? You said that Dad had stepped on the egg, Judy, so hopefully no damage was done.

9:58 am Mom is back and moves to her egg but she is still standing and peering all around so there must be some action in the sky. No incubation before flying down towards the river once more. It is sad to see this disruption here. (Not that we can see what is happening with no one manning the camera.)

10:04 am Mom is back but still just standing over the egg and searching the area towards the river. I hope that Dad is alright and ditto the egg. fingers crossed
