The Sauces have lost their 1st egg ...

SC- Cam / 02.04.2016 / What removed A-48 from the nest bowl at 5:17:29 AM ?

This pair seems to have the worst luck!

Thanks Maria for the video footage.

A60 visited the Fraser Point nest again today!

The West End and Two Harbors pair spent time on
their nests today.

Here is a capture of the WE pair.

Thanks Mpmom i just read that Momma Sauces laid another egg after her sad loss of the first egg ... lets keep our talons crossed that this pair can be successful this year.
They have had such bad luck breaking eggs!

Sauces

I do wonder if their eggs are weaker than most. A-48 wasn't from island stock, so shouldn't have had contaminants passed to her by her parents, and the previous pair raised chicks here, so I'd think it's not environmental - but this is really beyond simple bad luck or occasional clumsiness.

Unfortunately we're unlikely to know unless they somehow get shell fragments for testing.

This is the first time I've seen an eagle here - and she is lovely.

She is looking around.

She flew off to the upper right at 6:48 am - not sure if there's a perch in that direction - looked like a short-flight takeoff, though hard to tell.

She looked around a bit, then moved to the perch

And then she flew off to the upper right at 6:48 am.

A-49 and A-64 had at least one egg by February 20 last year - and looking at the nest, it seems quite unlikely that there will be eggs there - and I do wonder if there's a nest somewhere else, or if competition between A-64 and A-60 (and/or possibly other challengers) has disrupted their cycle, and they're taking a year off.
