Dr Sharpe ... iwsciber ... is on chat right now ... here is some of the discussion ...

iwsciber 10:45 AMThey can lay any time now. The Malva Real pair on Santa Cruz was incubating on Jan. 21 last year.

iwsciber 10:48 AM Sauces laid Feb. 7 last year, so they could easily move up a week or two this year.

iwsciber 10:48 AM Weather permitting, I should be able to check the Sauces power on the afternoon of Feb. 5 or on Feb.6.

iwsciber 10:50 AM In my experience, most bonding takes place off of the nest and then they will often fly to the nest afterwards.

tinaseagle 10:58 AM dave or Dr. Sharpe does both 81 and 82 just have one leg band

MIBDave 10:59 AM 81 has bands on both legs

MIBDave 11:01 AM He has a silver federal leg band on his right leg and an orange aluminum band with "7/L" on his left leg. We used to put the orange band on so that there was the possibility of reading the band if/when the wing marker fell off, but I stopped that I few years ago.

MIBDave 11:01 AMThat was Dr. Sharpe's explanation for the bands on K-81

iwsciber 11:02 AM The orange bands will start again this year.

iwsciber 11:10 AM The (current) orange bands are 18 years old, so they have faded

Wildweasle 11:11 AM All eagles banded before 2005 have two leg bands

sherBearBirdie 11:11 AMoh that makes sense. Ty Dr. Sharpe

MIBDave 11:11 AM But 81 and 82 both have two bands

tinaseagle 11:11 AMso the older eagles got two bands

MIBDave 11:12 AM81 & 82 are both from 1998

iwsciber 11:12 AM Most got orange bands from 1986-2004.

tinaseagle 11:13 AMone is for Federal and the other is IWS band right

iwsciber 11:14 AM Both (bands) are approved by the feds. We just have a better chance of reading the orange ones through a scope or digital photo if the wing tags fall off.
