As I was photographing this eagle, I heard another eagle trilling nearby?!? Once this eagle flew off and landed below the nest, I headed up the 44 Trail to see if there was anyone on the Christmas Tree across the highway bridge?

Sure enough, there was Miss Liberty perched atop her lookout post!

So, she didn't chase off this young eagle, she stayed put and trilled! That's not the reaction you would expect if Liberty had seen an unfamiliar young eagle so close to her nest?!?

It had been a while since I had seen the lovely Miss Liberty so this was a welcome sight for sure!

I didn't see where the young eagle headed after it perched under the nest for a bit, but I did see Liberty head south when she took off from the Christmas Tree! No sign of Spirit this morning but it sure looked as if Liberty was trying to spot her mate from her lookout perch!

I cropped the shots of the young eagle(3.0-3.5 years) to get a closer look at this beauty...

I haven't seen an eagle at the nest yet - but heard one trilling a few minutes ago! Wonderful to know they are back in the area!

wave Hi Judy! It's so wonderful that now we can at least hear the eagles when they are nearby, even when we can't see them!!! I do think it will bring a tear to my eye when I first see & hear Liberty & Spirit trilling on the new cams! It's been a hard-fought battle to bring sound to this nest and that will be the sweetest sound to my ears ever!!!Very Happy

Gary~Yes, I did see that cable that looks like it has come loose from the tree Sad All of the camera & microphone cables were supposed to be secured tightly to the tree, so I don't know what happened there?

I sure hope that doesn't cause a problem for Liberty & Spirit! We won't be able to get back up that tree until next season, so let's just hope for the best!fingers crossed

I am grateful that the new cams got installed. Everyone did a fantastic job. Based on what I saw earlier in the month, I just think the recent wind dislodged one or two cables from their fasteners as the tree trunk and branches moved along with the wind. You can't engineer for everything. I saw a s'cap of both eagles in the nest with the cables where they are now, so we know that it did not cause them to avoid the nest on that occasion. I am optimistic that things will go along well.

The Daytime POV camera shows some neat things like one of the old cameras (I think), the "ponds" surrounding the tree, and Hwy 44/bike trail! The other cam shows the river and island(s) or gravel bar(s). I think this will be cool once the eaglets start venturing to the edges of the nest so we have some idea of what they are looking at (ponds, river, trees, highway/bike trail, etc.). I am really looking forward to this season!
