Open question to you SWFL eagle experts: what are some simple ways to distinguish Harriet from M15? Thank you. This is my 3rd year watching, first post. I enjoy reading your updates.

Welcome

gullzena As was said already the size- when M15 and Harriet are side by side he is smaller. M15 has what looks like dark liner around his eyes. Also close up his eyes are more gray than yellow like Harriet's are. M15 has some white speckles on his back near his neck from the top view ( kind of like Ozzie's). It is sometimes hard to tell them apart and we are still learning too. Thanks for your post and interest in SWFEC!

I enjoy checking here several times a day, watching and learning....
...as tough as it was for us to accept what happened, and to let go of Ozzie, (he'll always be with us in our Red Heart 's)
it has been an absolute joy to see how happy Harriet is, and I am so proud to watch M15 work with her on the nest,
those crib rails are really coming along!! He is a gem! and watching their bond deepen and grow is amazing.

5:06 pm Empty at the moment, but you can really see the "nestorations" progress from day to day now...

I've been studying close ups of the two for a few days. Especially when they are perched close to each other. If M15 is closest to the camera, their difference in size isn't as obvious. Speckles aren't always in the camera shot.

Their "nostrils" (or whatever the proper word is for those openings at the back of the beak) are distinctively different. On one, they are small symmetrical almost almond shaped. The other's is more elongated, irregular in shape & has raised edges. Someone please correct me if I'm wrong. I believe it's Harriet w/ the dainty nostrils. M15's is more rugged looking, masculine in a way. If I have this backwards, please tell me now so I can retrain my brain. giggle

More Mating & Nestorations In High Gear Part 1/2 10-15-15

Part 1 of 2: This morning Harriet and M15 were bringing in branches and other nest material almost non stop. It is amazing to watch them work. They also bonded by mating. Working on the nest together is a bonding/courtship activity. <3 Ozzie.
