Thanks for the update sassyk - I'm glad to hear that they cared enough to relocate the nest. Smile I'll keep my fingers crossed for the new nest!

heatherj I've had word that the eagles did not use the relocated nest or their old nest this season. I'll keep my fingers crossed for next season fingers crossed

sassyk, I'm so sorry but somehow I missed your post on this nest last month. There have been so many posts on so many nests that this one got lost in the volume! Such a shame that this pair did not use either nest this year. Maybe they found another tree nearby? But if not I wish them a better season next year. And I love your photos from the Goldstream nest - thanks for sharing Smile

I visited the nest at Goldstream today. The lone eaglet has been flying around the area since July 31st. Both adults and the eaglet were eating down by the water's edge. 2 Turkey Vultures joined them hoping to find some leftovers. The eagles were not willing to share until they had eaten enough themselves. One of the adults flew to a favourite perch tree and stayed there for a long time while the other adult stayed with the eaglet by the edge of the water in the shade.

Goldstream Eagles (cont'd)

The 2nd adult had been behind the rocks then flew to a perch tree closer to the marina.

I have created a new dedicated thread for the Goldstream Eagles for the 2017/2018 season here, as it is a nest I will be regularly monitoring from now on.

I have changed the name of this thread to include the 2017/2018 season.

I received an email from an ex co-worker who has seen a pair of eagles perching and bringing in sticks to a tree across the road from his house. He told me last year there was a pair of eagles perching in a tree in his yard. I visited the area with a friend this afternoon and found the nest right away. There are a few new sticks and lots of white feathers in the nest so the eagles definitely are using it. After we had been there for awhile chatting with one of the neighbours, an adult eagle flew in and perched in a nearby tree. I'll continue to monitor this nest and hopefully the eagles will produce offspring in a few months fingers crossed

I have driven by the nest I photographed in my above post a few times lately and have seen the eagles perched in nearby trees. I didn't stop to take photos but will be visiting the area again soon.

I was given a tip a few weeks ago from a fellow birder about a nest in North Saanich and I found it yesterday. The fellow said he continues to see an immature around the nest area but hasn't seen the adults lately. They have been there bringing in sticks so maybe they are taking a break from nest building Dunno The fellow will keep me updated on the progress of the nest.
