11:00 am MDT

Wind 25 MPH (sorry Canadians - my mind just does not do metric)

The two have been standing side by side braced against the wind that is really buffeting them since I have been watching -

I started checking my video recording - watched them go on alert - heads in sync as they watched the unseen space invader and then took off to chase it away. From the intensity of their actions, I think it was crow rather than magpie

Mom, who had been on the right side suddenly flew up in attack mode and then landed on the left side frame

Good morning ladies. wave

I turned on the cam five minutes after you left, Judy and I've been watching the comings and goings of busy Dad while checking other nests so it has been fun. The nest is fuller but still in disarray. We lost a lot of trees and branches in the freak September snowstorm and that perhaps has affected what is happening here. The sticks that Dad brought in before Mom arrived seemed very flimsy and since her return he has brought home a few more of substance which may be harder to find this year. Our trees were still leafed out when the snow fell and it was the healthy branches that crashed down and were lost.

However things look good now tthough I am still concerned about Mom's condition. She has always shown more energy in the spring and it is strange to see her just sitting in the nest so much. Perhaps that is necessary to ward off any raiders, as there was a blackbird that buzzed around the nest at 10:23 am but did not stay long., - good catch, Bet.

At any rate things look promising here and they have a good start with Dad home early. There is a great chance that your poem, Carolyn, with its hope for chicks and many fishes come true here again.

11:21 am Mom is sitting overlooking the river wobbling in the sunshine and wind. A minute later Dad drops down by her side but he is off towards the river right away. ByebyeAt 11:28 am he returns with another long thin branch, he is trying so hard but Mom just sits in her corner not helping place it. Puzzled

11:31 am There is an attempted mating but Mom is not willing.

Maybe it would help if people - besides me - wrote EnMax about the quality problems of the cam. Not being a computer tech, I don't know if they can fix it with the computer. If it's at the cam, forget it, we will have to live and love it as it is for the rest of the year.

I do not know the name of the person who monitors this email address or how often they even check it

PS: quote from their website

Get in on the fun and tweet us (@ENMAX) with your guess about when you think the first egg will be laid in the nest. My guess Monday April 27 if someone wants to input it.

I don't tweet or facebook either so I am no help there

Carolyn, you do have a way with words! Thank you for the clever poem - it made me smile.

JD - I agree Mom is a bit quiet, but then she usually has arrived before Dad. I am guessing that she encountered some severe weather on her return journey and is going to take two to three days to recover.

I reviewed my morning recordings again. There appeared to be a successful mating at 9:05 Calgary time. The double image made it difficult to see. At 9:57 the attempt by Dad but no cooperation. Again at 11:56 Dad made the attempt with no cooperation from Mom.

I did go back and look for your crow sighting. Found a couple of frames where it was visible

One of these flew in right behind Dad all the way to the nest as he returned with a stick
