Hi All!

I like this cam too. I grew up and lived most of my life in Northern NJ so this is not far off from my stomping grounds. It's great to see a northern landscape since I now live in Texas (as does Mary most of the year). It's a beautiful nest and pair.

Hi everyone! Because I have never lived in (or near) Pennsylvania, and wondered where the nest was - and wondered if we could get some idea when they might have eggs based on the timing of the nearby nests - and because I've wanted to try working with Google maps - I decided this would be a fun project for a snowy day when I'm supposed to be taking it easy as I try to get over a messy lingering cold:

Once you click the link, if I set the permissions correctly, you should have a fully-functional Google map showing Hanover and six other nests in the region.

Disclaimer - the pins are not in the exact location of the nest - and in some cases may not even be in the right town, though they're close (the folks who run the River Farm cam want the location kept secret, so the pin is in a town they say is nearby).

Enjoy!

(And let me know if it doesn't work - you should be able to zoom in and out, and also switch from a street view to a view that shows the terrain - I think.)

Added - I forgot to mention that the Blackwater pair laid their first egg this year on January 7 (which is earlier than usual, and they've laid as late as January 30). The Virginia and West Virginia nests have had their first egg between January 31 and February 17 in previous years since I've been keeping notes, Duke Farms has been the last half of February and Pittsburgh Hays was the middle of February last year - all of which, I suspect, proves absolutely nothing! Smile

OH Judy, Love the map! It works perfectly! It will be interesting to see when they lay.. timing wise i would think the last part of Feb. because it is pretty even with Sheperdstown.. but some of the nests so far have been earlier this year.. ??? always a head scratchier..

Bev, great shots and love to see them eating on the nest. The collage is very nice too Bravo
