The Harrison Salmon Stronghold Salmon Festival is HERE!
Wednesday, September 30 2015 @ 02:36 AM ADT
Contributed by: davidh

The Harrison Salmon Stronghold and the Sts'ailes First Nations are holding their first full 5 day Salmon Festival this year at the incredible Weaver Creek Spawning Grounds, just up the road from our regular Bald Eagle Festival sites. This incredible spawning site annually hosts some 20,000 to 30,000 human visitors for close inspection of the spawning salmon.

The Weaver Creek Spawning Channel also generally attracts about 20,000 spawning salmon, mostly the colorful Sockeye but with a few pinks, chum and coho added. This year the Sts'ailes will also be conducting at their adjacent reserve two more formal presentations of song and dance on the meaning of salmon. On the first day of the Festival, the day with presentations for the Press, many schools and the public, they will also be hosting a salmon netting exercise (at 11AM) at the river's edge on the reserve. This will be followed by a barbeque salmon lunch and the story telling session at the nearby Chief Charlie Longhouse.

Getting to see this spawning miracle is wondrous but having the two daily shows at the Charlie Longhouse and the salmon feast is totally awesome. You are all invited.

On the weekend of October 17 - 18 I will also be on hand and if we can find a dark enough site I will be giving a presentation - The Salmon & Eagles of the Harrison. At the very least our Fraser Valley Bald Eagle Festival committee will be on hand with a booth and volunteers to talk about salmon and eagles. The eagle festival follows on Nov. 21 - 22 just down stream where the majority of the salmon carcasses get stranded on the sandbars of the Chehalis Flats.

See you at the Harrison Salmon Festival from October 14 thru October 18 at Weaver Creek
