Thanks for the great coverage of the afternoon and evening, BET and Michelle. I wasn't going to sign in tonight, just put the cam up about ten minutes after your last post, Michelle, and saw Mom brooding peacefully. Off and on she woke up and then I could barely see her when she faced away from the cam and put her head down as the picture is very grainy at night.

However at 12:17 am I looked in again and saw Mom up on the river side of the nest and Dad flew in and he mated with her or attempted same,- my eyes were barely open and then Mom flew out! Took me by surprise and Dad I think too as he hesitated a few seconds before walking over to the egg and again before sitting on the nest. He is brooding now at 12:52 am and looking around as if he thinks Mom will be back soon.

Dad has tended to the eggs a couple of times already. Mom is probably perched nearby. It is 12C which will probably our high today if the forecast comes to pass. It isn't raining yet. Very Happy and Good night

Turns the egg and pokes in the bowl for about 8 minutes but not yet incubating. Keeps looking around the river and island area then stares at the egg off and on. Unusual that she's not sitting on it when it's cold and windy .

7:49 am
Dad arrives home with a stick.

7:50 am
As Mom tends with finding a place for the stick Dad checks on the egg.

7:51
Dad flew off.
The egg has been exposed and semi-exposed for 11 minutes before Mom finally heads over to give it another turn. She still doesn't lay on it.

7:52
She is still standing over the egg but not laying on it.
Dad arrives again -- this time with a clump of dark grass

7:54 am
Dad flew off.
Mom stands on the side of the nest.
Egg laying exposed.
I know she won't fully incubate this egg until she's finished laying the rest but I don't know if I've seen her ever leave one uncovered for quite this long.

7:55 am
She tends to her egg and FINALLY settles on it.

Does anyone know whether or not Mom has eaten since before she laid this egg ?

7:59 am
Dad arrives to take over incubation while Mom flies off -- hopefully she can find herself a fish since Dad doesn't seem to be bringing any home.

8:02 am
Dad spots something off screen and immediately flies off leaving the egg alone.

He returns almost instantly and then flies off again.
Mom arrives within a second to take over the nest.

8:05 am
Now Dad is back with a branch -- both on the nest moving a big branch.
I hope they are careful not to step on that egg.

8:09 am
Mom is incubating the egg and Dad is gone.

8:12 am
Dad arrives with a chunk of bark. A nice piece of decor Dad but a fish would be more than welcome here. He does a bit of branch moving before flying off again.

8:14 am
He is back again this time with another clump of something dark. Thought it might be grass but it looks like either the inside of wet bark or (hopefully not plastic). Leaves it on the nest and flies off. He's a busy little O this morning.

8:19 am
Whatever that dark thing is Mom is now chewing on it.
She has picked it up and moved it in front of her and I'm certain now that it's bark Phew

waveeveryone.

You had an interesting early morning, Judy. If my math is correct, Mom was off the egg for 15 min., brooded for four and then it was uncovered for another ten minutes. The temp. is above freezing and I'm sure it will be alright but that seems a long time. Oh My

12:06 pm Mom was brooding and Dad flew in. Mom was up and away fairly quickly amd Dad settled on the eggs. He did not bring a fish but Mom looks well-fed.

12:20 pm The egg is uncovered. I saw an osprey up and away but missed what was happening while writing this.

12:21 Mom is in and shakes her head and covers the egg, rolls it a bit but finally sits down. It has been a drizzly morning and continues.Rain

12:28 pm Dad flies in and Mom leaves the egg and stands beside him at the front of the nest (river side).
Dad moves to the egg and rolls it and sits down to brood. He's not as keen as Mom to cool their precious egg. love

12:23 pm After a short stay at the back of the nest, Mom flies out.

Mom flew in at 2:02 pm and brooded until 2:11, - nine minutes in total. Maybe Dad is finding the fishing too hard?

At any rate, Lady and Laddie (Scottish Wildlife Reserve forum) had a role reversal according to their blog, which appears to have been righted now after the three eggs have been laid. Lady of course is also the more experienced of that pair. (And then some). Grin

I wonder what will happen when the snow flies tonight and/or tomorrow. Stay tuned...

3:23 pm Mom is back on this soggy afternoon. Dad is up of the eggs, flaps off the rain and is away.

Mom checks her egg visually , then moves into the bowl and broods.
