Hi BET, jkr, amd and all!

I saw that Lady is back and was accordingly jubilant. Once you get "into" the ospreys they just as so astounding with their migration and general attitude.
They have a lot of "character", highly addictive.

I hope they come back to lots of fish nearby.

Hello Everyone, A quick driveby the Zoo today, sorry to see Canada Geese on the Zoo Osprey Nest.... Enmax responded to me also, to say they are still working on the webcam and hope to have the webcam operational by mid April. No guarantee of course, but they are doing their best and for which we are soooo grateful.
Looking forward to reuniting with you all this year. No Osprey sightings for me elsewhere in Calgary. Someone posted on Alberta Birds a few weeks ago they saw an Osprey in Springbank.

Lovely to see you here Janet, but PLEASE SAY IT AIN'T SO !! I hope the geese were just visitors and not taking up residence.

Did you happen to notice whether the nesting material was gone from the nest box ? If I recall correctly Enmax usually clears out the old nesting so that the geese can't nest. Maybe with the flood and all that was going on they didn't get a chance to do that.
It would be a real shame if the osprey lose their nest after all these years.

Golly I hope not.....That would make sense Judy....Enmax would not have been able to clear the nest. We'll see, thank you so much Janet.

I contacted EnMax again and recieved this reply

We are on schedule to have the cam available on enmax.com around the 15th of April.

I went back and checked my records on arrival times : (Unfortunately, I didn't keep all for 2006, 7, 8,& 9 when I transferred archives to a new computer)

2009 Apr 19 O's home Not sure when they arrived
2010 Ap 15 O's home
2011 Ap 11 O's home (April 8 geese, )
2012 April 10 O's home
2013 Ap 24 O home (Ap 15 geese)

BET

PS Regarding clearing the nest. They do that when they set up/check the camera in the Spring - not in the fall at the end of the season

BET, I went back into the old archives.
No record of 2006 because we were on the old InfoTech website and those archives are not available. I think Richard was the only one who could access them.

2007 -- No camera but Soundguy made trips to the nest area to report to us. That was the year the cam was taken out by a lightning strike.

2008 --- No reports of the camera until June of that year. I can't recall if they were just late getting the cam up and running or what exactly the delay was.

2009 -- The first report from the cams was May of that year.

Links to the archives begins on page 1 of this thread.
The earlier years may be unavailable to read unless you were a member of our old forum and recall your user name and password. forum/viewtopic.php?showtopic=630396&lastpost=true#633656

If you'd like to know how early geese nest ------------- I took this on April 12, 2009 at one of our Cranbrook area osprey nests. (The snowy Rocky Mts. in the background.)

Keeping fingers cross the ones at the Zoo don't have the same idea !

Thank you Judy - Pleases me to know that my transferring of data did not fail after all.

My record of the O's arrival in 2009 was an email from Brian Keating - I think he was still working at the Zoo that year - also, I don't recall, but maybe that was the first year that they stripped the nest because of the geese. Brian did the nest stripping the first year it was done. It was the last year he worked at the Zoo.

Yes the nest was still intact on the Zoo nest. The Geese were stood up on the nest. I read somewhere....that Enmax are currently upgrading the Camera to Fiber Optics, cant remember where I read it. Keep you posted.
