Special weather statement in effect for the City of Calgary

Wet snow expected Saturday.
A weather system is forecast to move through Southern Alberta Saturday bringing wet snow. Precipitation will develop in Pincher Creek tonight and spread northwards to Calgary by Saturday afternoon. Precipitation may begin as rain but will quickly change to wet snow as temperatures drop close to zero. With temperatures near zero snowfall amounts will vary depending on the surface it falls onto and local intensity. Some locations could see up to 15 cm by Sunday morning. As confidence in the systems intensity and track increases warnings could be issued.

Good Morning Everyone.Byebye
Thank you for all the screen captures yesterday. Being able to catch up on the day's activities is always appreciated.

Both on the nest again this morning. I keep hoping to see Mom sitting on an egg when I turn on the cam in the mornings but I really do wish the weather would warm up a few degrees before that happens. Winter in Calgary never seems to end Sad

Some serious nesting material was brought in this morning. It's piling up higher and higher.

Morning All

Judy's wishing to see an egg prompted me to check this Mom's previous egg dates.

2012:
Her first year. Arrived April15, Original Dad arrived April 16
First egg delivered May 6
20 days after arriving

2013:
New male
April 24 - both arrived
First egg May 6
12 days after arriving

I did not mention first mating as there is no way of knowing when and where that occurred. Twice on May 6 - coincidence ?

Good morning, everyone. Glad to see that it may be a week of so for eggs, Bet, after our weather report.

Mom has been on the nest most of the morning and she just flew out at 10:50 am. Dad was in and out with a few sticks and some grass and once or twice they both looked like there was a threat but nothing seemed to come of it.

Several matings or attempts were made, a successful one at 10:36 am mayhaps. It's not raining in my area so far so must get some yard work done. Byebye

10:56 am Mom returned with a stick. And Dad immediately follows her into the nest, they are alert and he is off again.

Thank you all for keeping me up to date. I am mired in marking right now so can only pop in every once in a while. I just checked the camera and mom was pushing down nest material and I had a chance to grab a quick s'cap. If it does start to snow and you hear crying tomorrow -- that will be me.

Mom was on the nest and went into alarm mode. Dad flew in and both went on defense

The intruder had to be very close overhead for this kind of defense. It is Mom that lunged up at the intruder. Right after this sequence of images, Dad took off after the intruder.

This is about the same time of day I have noted defensive measures before. I have to wonder if there is another nest nearby and the owner is just fishing and is trying to expand his/her fishing territory.
