I haven't checked in for a while - Kaloakulua sure is getting big! But still looks suspiciously like a pile of dried grass. love

I'm happy to see that Kaloakulua's adult visitor wasn't aggressive - but I'm guessing that's normally the case or the parents would have a different style for raising their chick.

Thanks so much for your reports, Kay - definitely interesting to see the no-longer-little one develop!

I had fun watching Kaloakulua yesterday preening and stretching on the lawn. S/he sure is getting big but still has some fluffy down. There was an unbanded adult wandering around, it was joined by a banded adult and they were squealing and clacking beaks, pumping up and down, possibly a mating ritual. Then a 3rd adult wandered over and there seemed to be a bit of a territorial altercation then one of the adults left. The other 2 adults carried on with their ritual for quite some time and even though Kaloakulua seemed to be wary at first s/he turned around and continued to preen. I recorded several videos that I will upload later.
