Malu had some company this morning around 10:15am. This was a non-nesting unbanded one. It stood there, tucked its head back under it's wings, and looked like it was trying to sleep standing up. A couple of times it looked like it was going to fall over backwards Oh My It finally got smart and layed down. Malu didn't pay any attention to it.

There was a wind storm in the Kiluea area of Kauai earlier today and the internet was knocked out. When the cam came back on I knew there was a different bird on the nest with Niau. It didn't get up far enough to see a band. Later there was a bird over by nest #2 and the cam was zoomed in. I could see the K312 on the band so I knew it was Mama Malu. I assumed it was Papa Ko'olau on the nest with Niau. On the chat they said the visiting bird was K513 but later when it got up again they zoomed in and got a clear view of the band. They posted on chat that the bird was indeed Mama Malu and that she was resting before heading out to sea in search of food. Papa has been on the nest and it is still quite windy; I think that is why he has his wings spread out to protect Niau.
