More rain today~yikes!
Feeding time for the chicks, Shasta & Peace in the front of the line as usual, and little Justice patiently waiting his turn in the back of the line.

Here is an excerpt from Denise Yergenson's blog at the Caltrans District 2 website. This is the Biologist explaining the incident I was telling you about yesterday...
Q: The biggest one is beating up the others, is that normal?
A: There was a lot of sibling rivalry yesterday afternoon during and after the last two feedings as the largest eaglet was very aggressive towards it's two siblings. This included grabbing each of them a couple of times, dragging the small one a little bit and pecking them multiple times both during and after the feeding. We have observed this from time to time, but today it did seemed more aggressive. However, no injuries have been observed to any of the chicks as a result. There were four decent feeding bouts yesterday and this is a good reminder to everyone about some of the harsh realities of raptor young and how the adult eagles will not intervene in these behaviors. All the eaglets are still moving around and getting fed. A nice size Sacramento Sucker (fish) seemed to be a good dinner.

Have they declared our drought over with yet? I am getting tired of all the rain. I know it is good and all that, but......
Nice scaps eaglewoman. Thanks for the link to the blog and for including what Denise wrote. I was glad to see all three eaglets moving around this morning. I wasn't able to watch this evening as our power was out for three hours, so I will be happy to see them in the morning.

The sun is shining on the nest and all three eaglets are trying to get in the parent's shade. The biggest one is mostly in the sun and panting very hard. It's whole little body is moving with the effort. I've forgotten...how much younger is the tiny one?
ETA...Now the tiny one is in the sun and peeping like crazy.

There is a little more than 2 1/2 days difference between the middle one (Shasta) and Justice. Peace is one day older than Shasta. Seems like much more than 2 1/2 days for sure. But in two and a half days Justice should be as big as the other two are today.
HATCH DATES:
March 25, 2010 7:22 p.m.: PEACE
March 26, 2010 6:05 p.m.: SHASTA
March 29, 2010 8:55 a.m.: JUSTICE
