Branching 101; Wing & Hop; Delivery; Dad's All Wet ~ 6-7-17
Video by Judy/UrDogNu

I am recording from the Teacup 2 picnic area, which is further away than I have been perching. I think this may be a better vantage point to get some better footage of the branching and eventual fledge. Today is the first time I have seen C8 step up to a branch, which is two days before he/she is 10 weeks old. Usually branching occurs around 2-3 weeks before they fledge. Mostly two weeks. Branching is the process by which the eaglet hops out of the nest onto limbs next to it. This is a small step towards eventual fledging. Branching allows the birds to begin to really stretch their wings, improving their coordination and balance while building the muscles they'll need for flight. Bald eagles fledge, or leave the nest, any time between 9 and 14 weeks.

Two Course Breakfish; Pick-Up-Fish & Eat; Flights; Slow Mo Wingers~6-15-17
Video & Photos by Judy/UrDogNu

The male delivered two fish. The first one was delivered three minutes after the male departed at 5:50am. The female was perched in the old nest tree and flew to the nest to feed C8. Dad delivered another large fish around 7:30am (played in slow motion) which little big one took its good old time eating on and off until I left around 10:30am. There are a few slow motion clips of some nice wingersizing action.

MY Fish! Pounce, Grab & Play; Rushing Mom Off Nest~6-19-17
Video & Photos by Judy/UrDogNu

C8 is 11 weeks and a few days today. Lots of strong wingers this morning. Dad delivers a fish while mom watches from her perch. We think she was actually watching him hunt and catch the fish by the way she was acting. The male posed nicely for us while he dried off his wet feathers. C8 is showing improved muscle coordination and strength as he pounces and grabs at objects and prey in the nest. It is quite a sight to observe. Mom decides to fly to the nest to feed but C8 has a hissy fit and rushes Mom right off the nest to the nearby branches.
