Any experts on Red Tailed Hawks. One had fledged in June & was very noticable. I didn't hear or see it since the first week of July. He has reappeared again a few days ago constantly calling & circling the area where we think his nest was. IS this normal behaviour for them?

Hi Folks !!

Yesterday I spotted this Red-Tailed Hawk with the big blue patagial wing tag.
Can anyone inform me as to who might be monitoring this bird and to whom I should report the sighting ?
It may have a transmitter that tracks the bird ?

Thanks !!

Red-Tailed Hawk #15

Jennifer from Fish & Wildlife called. We had a very interesting conversation.
She suggested I get in touch with Bud Anderson of the Falcon Research Group.

http://www.frg.org/

We spoke on the phone. Bud was excited to learn of my sighting.
FRG is involved in a project that is relocating Red-tailed Hawks away from Seattle - Tacoma International Airport.
Our #15 was captured at / near Sea-Tac on September, 8, 2010. It was banded and tagged, and Bud released the hawk in Bow, Washington the same day, Sept. 8. The bird is a juvenile male.
I spotted #15 on Oct. 11, just West of Bellingham. It had traveled about 17 miles North , as the crow flies.
This is good news since the hawk is moving away from the Sea-Tac airport.

Thanks for the update, Doug - that is great! I'm glad you were able to find the right folks to contact - and glad to hear that the young hawk is moving to what should be a safer area to explore and perhaps eventually settle down.
