I am not surprised that the osprey are gone.
I didn't get to the zoo nest area of the river but further to the SE of the river I didn't see any osprey at all near their nests. In fact, I saw three flocks of Canada Geese heading south which is really early for them.
Calgary was miserable and cold. Saturday there was a heavy frost and Sunday it was pouring rain.
It appears that Fall has arrived a full month early this year. Sad

The cam went down Friday afternoon and was down all weekend. ( I posted it but, no post here.:dunnoSmile

The nest is very empty. It looks totally undisturbed - sticks willy nilly across the bowl . There is a bit more sand bar visible - river must be lower - but no birds occupying it.

Sad to see another season go but great to have had the privilege of watching the nest built from scratch and the two young O's hatch and develop into healthy self sufficient juveniles. Some wonderful events - I think my favorite was the lonely young female Osprey trying to make the nest a threesome and the way she was so kindly encouraged to leave. The most aggravating and scary event was the very large plastic garbage bag. It took a lot of effort by numerous people to get the Zoo and Enmax to remove it. And as events turned out, a good thing they did or we might not have had any hatchings. The parents could not incubate the first egg as it was covered by the bag and try as they did, they could not get it out from under the bag - and that egg did not hatch.

I will keep the cam up a few more days, but I really think they have started their long journey south.

Tues Sept 21

There has been no activity of any kind on the nest these past two days.

So it is time to say goodbye wave

Until next season,

BET
