Hi jkr and BET,

This Dad is going to be incredible. I already love him and his attitude. How great is it that the egg is on your daughter's birthday jkr. Cool....any more birthdays we need to know about?

BET, did you go back to sleep?

Not unless you count my niece's birthday in June but it's 31 days from now and a bit too early for hatching. Rolling on floor laughing

Mom is quietly nesting.
Maybe Dad is out fishing and looking for a perfect size fish for Mom.

Poor Mom --- Dad decides to mate already but Mom wasn't quite as cooperative as he expected her to be --- Gee, I don't know why not considering she only just laid an egg hours ago -- MEN !! Oh the shame

Mom flew off and left Dad home to tend to the egg.
He is spending a lot of time rolling it around on the nest. I'm not sure if he knows what to do with it.

He has rolled it to the opposite side of the bowl.

He has it in the middle now.
I wish he'd quit pecking at it in case he breaks it.

Titter
He is obviously very new at this parenthood thing.
Now he is crouched down but the egg is out in front of him.

Come on Dad -- You are supposed to lay on that egg !
He is still poking around and hasn't made up his mind what to do with it. He has circled around the egg at least 3 times and still hasn't settled. It's a good thing the first egg doesn't need incubating right away.

9:55 am
Still poking about -- moving grass, twigs and rolling the egg.

I'm back - had some coffee and I may be coherent - maybe not. I did get back to sleep, sort of - I let the dogs sleep on the bed with me and they crowded me in. But it did allow me the illusion of getting some sleep

So glad you caught Dad's first egg sitting job. He is trying - and I have no doubt he will end up to be a Super Dad. His instincts are great. A good match for SuperMom.

Judy, wish your daughter a Happy Birthday!!! (ps Mine is tomorrow)

Just counted the calendar 36/37 days are June 11/12. It will be more than just interesting to see if SuperMom repeats last years unusual event and breaks open the egg to help the hatching. If she does, I wonder if our SuperDad will try to help do that too! Green LOL He really is something!!!

Not sure who is on the nest right now but from Judy's description of behavior I think it might be Dad. HE seems to be trying to figure out what to do. Standing up, looking about, poking in the nest bowl around the egg, switching his weight back and forth from one foot to the other.

This is a little late - occurred near noon time MDT.

I was watching Hellgate to see if Iris laid the third egg today and was recording Calgary. Iris did lay an egg - whose it is is a big question. It is right on time for it to be the third sired by her first partner. A cuckoo in the nest? Or it is possible to be Stanleys - her returned mate. Will have to see if she lays another in 3 days or a longer interval.

Anyway This is Calgary
Mom was brooding - back to the wind which was gusting. Blowing up her tail feathers and wing tips

Suddenly, a big gust and Mom suffers the indignity of taking a nose dive. (At least she didn't end up head over teakettle as Lady of Loch Lowes did)

She stood up. Took account of herself and settled back down. Dad flew in

and Mom willingly gave him the egg sitting job.
