That must have been quite fun to watch - tug of war with a strong "tug". Good for mom, she won!
Thanks for recounting the tale BET.

hi carolyn and calgary watchers!wave

i had recently posted a video from the hellgate nest of the new male stealing iri's fish after she laid her egg.
after i posted it, carolyn mentioned the food fight at calgary yesterday. i remembered that when i viewed the hellgate video, the youtube member (WTR97) had a video titled MAJOR FISH TUG OF WAR.
so i went back to view it and sure enough! IT WAS THE CALGARY food fight. serendipity!

so here it is!

949am

Mom had been busy moving sticks all about the nest - looked more like being busy to be busy rather than accomplishing much when Dad flew in with a fish

Maybe he is learning - he has to eat his share first and off nest! Green LOL This fish is headless

Mom takes it with no struggle and flies off to eat it else where

Hi Calgary friends......

Newbie, the tug-of-fish was hysterical! Thank you....I loved it when she tried to fly and he held her back by tugging. It seemed to me that they were actually
having fun.

Great catch, Bet, they were sitting staring up at the riverbank trees or poles so I knew that someone has been threatening them again this morning.

11:25 am Both on the nest and moving sticks, - one flew off down over the river at 11:28 and brought back a lot of grass. Placed it and left again.

It is still -2C and my place in the NW had about an inch of snow overnight. I finally had my lawn free of snow for the first time since Oct 16th! But the sun is out now and there is warmer air coming in tomorrow. Very Happy

11:33am More grass brought in by Mom, - hope Dad brings in bigger branches as Mom broods the eggs we hope to see soon. 11:37 and again with the grass, wet-looking too.

wave Carolyn, lots happening on the ospreys nests now.giggle

The pair have been busy on the nest today but Mom is primarily guarding right now, imo. If you are running tape, Bet, you might want to check at
3:12 and 3:20 pm. Mom flared her wings at the osprey coming in as though he was an intruder, I don't really know what was up with that?Puzzled

Your right J D Busy day for the O nests. Hellgate's new egg and an intruder and now snow!

Meanwhile at Calgary Either Mom has PMS (maybe that should mean PM (mating)S ) or we have a brazen intruder

At 3:12pm Mom was alert - watching the river area intently. Suddenly in flies I thought New Dad His talons were extended and he seemed to be aiming directly at Mom. She flared in protest and he side slipped his landing to the post. She flew at him to drive him off and succeeded

She continued in the "alarm alert" mode and a few minutes later, (3:19pm) the O (who) again came in to land. This time on the back corner of the box. Mom immediately attacked!

Who is it? If it is New Dad, why is she sweet and cooperative one time and fierce another. Is this a second male trying to take over? I haven't been able to get a "chest view" to compare markings.
