Video: Farewell Delta OWL Bald Eagles 2011

The time has come to say goodbye to these eagles. Madam laid two eggs in 2009, but they failed to hatch (not uncommon for a young pair).

This nest was completely destroyed by wind in early 2010.
In September, David Hancock cleaned and refurbished the cameras and shored up the nest with reinforcing. Two more eggs were laid in Spring, 2011, but they, too, did not hatch.

We hope these loyal and persevering eagle pair will be successful in 2012.

Music by Kevin MacLeod: “There is Romance.”

2nd egg 3/14

Version with music is also posted in my Media Gallery album here: Farewell Delta OWL Bald Eagles 2011

Thanks so much for this beautiful tribute to this amazing pair.

Double Your Donation!

One of our long-time members has offered to match up to $1000 in donations made between now and midnight today, Monday, August 8th - so if you've been thinking about making a donation - now's the time to do it!

David really needs to know how much money is available so he can make the hard choices as to which cams will be upgraded and which will just get a cleaning and a bit of routine maintenance - and with this matching challenge, there's never been a better time to support the cams.

As of August 7, we've received $4,295 - which is great, but we've got a long way to go. It will cost around $12,000 to get a good pan-tilt-zoom cam at Sidney - and we also want to at least clean, repair and do routine maintenance on all the other cams.

You can donate now with CanadaHelps or PayPal, or call Hancock Wildlife later this morning when the office opens (toll free in Canada and the United States) - click here for details on these and other easy ways to donate.

Delta 2

White Rock

We wish all our nests had cams as spectacular as White Rock's - and we need your help to do that.

Please give what you can, and a little bit more.

Thank you. love

Attention Forum Faithful:

Are you suffering from an acute case of ENS (Empty Nest Syndrome)? :cry1:
Did you miss the release of Oreo, the eaglet who fell from his nest at Delta 2? Cry Hanky

Well I have just the thing for you – OWL is holding a 2nd Open House. It’s in lieu of our Spring Hootenanny which unfortunately had to be cancelled this year. You will be able to tour behind the scenes of the facility from the medical room to some of the pre-release cages not normally open to the public. Also, you will be able to see our Education Birds – 40 raptors, including eagles, owls, hawks, falcons and vultures.

Obviously I cannot make any guarantees, but if I were a betting person I’d wager big time on the chance to see a rehabilitated Bald Eagle (probably a juvenile) being released back to the wild just like Oreo was only a few short weeks ago.
The release will be at 1 pm on both days – now I say “will be” because we just banded 12 of them and I’m 99.99% sure that 2 will be kept specifically for release at Open House.

So come on down to OWL and see what we’re all about. I’ll be there on Saturday and I hope to meet lots of forum members.

The details are:

Saturday, Aug. 27th and Sunday, Aug. 28th

10:00 am to 3:00 pm both days

3800 72nd Street, Delta
(next to the Boundary Bay Airport)
