Welcome to the 2012/2013 season of the Victoria , BC Hummingbird Nest

Eric Pittman has been recording several families of Anna’s Hummingbirds in Victoria, British Columbia, including Tweet and Fluff. Their nesting season is from December to July. During that time period the female will lay two eggs almost every six weeks. In fact, when one batch of chicks gets too large for her to sit on, she will make another nest and lay another two eggs and she sits on those while still feeding her nearly fledged chicks! Female hummingbirds do not let male hummingbirds near a nest because the male hummingbird's bright colors might alert predators in the nest area..male hummingbirds will also attack a female hummingbird that enters his territory that he has not mated with...after the female mates with him, she will be allowed to roam his territory without too much worry...

FEB.21, 2013.. We are currently watching Sugar... The Anna's Hummingbird... she is in a pear tree in E. Pittmans garden in Victoria,B.C. (our hosts garden)She is well hidden by lichen.

Egg Incubation Period .... 16-18 days

Spice hatched Feb.28, 2013 and Nice hatched March 1, 2013

Spice and Nice fledged March 28, 2013 at 9:11am and 9:19am

Sugar..Second Clutch

Eggs.. Eric reported seeing two eggs in the nest in their Plum Tree... March 29, 2013.

Hatched.. First Egg Hatched April 13..I saw a feeding around 5:15pm..,,April 15, 2013...Def.two chicks today.. Saw Sugar going from one to the other feeding them....

Fledged...
Clove Fedged May 9 between 5:24pm and 5:32pm
Ginger Fledged May 10 at 6:12am

Eggs.. Frist egg seen May 6, 2013. Sec. egg ?May 8, 2013 .

HATCHED:
EGG # 1 Honey...hatched May 22 at 6:57am....EGG #2Nectar hatched May 23, 2013.

FLEDGED

Honey fledged June 14.....23days old...
Nectar fledged June 15..... 23 days old......

The cam was off air after Honey and Nectar fledged.....

HI all.I have been checking this cam and tonight when i looked apparently there is a nest cam streaming... from what i know it is Sugar's Nest... I will check again tomorrow as the cam is in darkness now..
