Phoebe's usual nesting season is from October to June.. her clutches consist of two eggs almost every six weeks.. Phoebe has 5 nests located in the host's front courtyard in a rose bush .. she will often repair one of them when one batch of chicks gets too big for her to sit on going back and forth to feed them and will have it ready for her next clutch... sometimes she has been known to lay her eggs before the other chicks fledge. Female hummingbirds do not let male hummingbirds near a nest because the male hummingbird's bright colors might alert predators in the nest area..male hummingbirds will also attack a female hummingbird that enters his territory that he has not mated with...after the female mates with him, she will be allowed to roam his territory without too much worry...

Second egg was non viable..

March 6, 2013... Mr Pungh removed the Non- Viable egg from the nest with double sided foam tape pair of hemostat( Tweeezers)

March 7, 2013.. Phoebe adopted an Orphan Chick named PIP

Shelly Fledged at 7:13pm..May 11, 2013.. A crow was too close to the nest..Mr Pungh shooed it away and Shelly was startled and took of like a rocket....

Phoebe has an injured beak... I was in contact with Mr Pungh..he said it happened a few days ago....they are keeping a close watch on it and that Phoebe is healthy.....

I haven't heard any mating displays yet, and no nest activity. She's been sitting at the top of a palm tree by the rose bush a lot, with a shotgun across her knee, keeping an eye on her territory and on the males on the other side of the house.


Looking forward to another season with Phoebe and all our friends that post and visit here...

Whoo hoo Bev, I can hardly wait.... Someone forgot to tell our dear Phoebe that "her" season is from Oct she's keeping us all in suspense. Thank you for checking and bringing us the good news here.... Bev, your the best
