Hi arkyquest! thanks for your photographs. It is so wonderful to have ground observers to fill in the blanks when there is no activiy on the nest.

... smiling to myself as I saw what must have been the white head of an osprey bobbing up and down. I walked over to the nest today to discover that, in fact, it's a plastic bag:

giggle

It is very common for nest watchers to see 'unusual' things on nests that turn out to be nothing more than the play of light and shadow or even just the 'poo-art' that can accumulate on the support branches of nests (eagles are especially good poo-artists!) Mistaking a plastic bag for a bobbing head is all in a day's watching. Thanks for mentioning it. LOL

4:14pm no activity on the nest. I have been thinking about the 'inward-facing poop shot jkr reported this morning. ...

4:15pm Mom arrives!! No fish.

4:25pm still watching mom on the nest just sitting and looking about.
I don't think she is doing any calling as far as I can see.

Arkyquest

Love the photos - plastic bag!!! I wonder if Dad Osprey had two families. He had an obsession about bringing plastic bags to the nest.

Regarding the banded chicks. None have ever been reported to my knowledge. The banded Osprey would have died or been captured for some reason for the number to be read and unless some special arrangement had been made, just reported to who ever is responsible for keeping track of Canadian Wildlife. EnMax has never appeared to be interested in that type of thing.

4:37pm a cluster of black birds landed on the tip of the bar and then took off again to screen right. I thought at first it was one of our chicks.

Thanks BET, that's what I suspected about the banding. I'm happy to assume that all of "our" chicks are still out there somewhere raising their own families. What interesting creatures ospreys are, and humans too.
