7:10pm - Still just one chick on the nest since the other flew off at 6:22pm

I haven't seen Mom around since she delivered/ate the fish on the nest at 1:07pm. I'm wondering if she may be out searching for her missing chick. It's possible through their callings with each other that she knew where it was when it was on the balcony, but now that it's been rescued earlier this afternoon, maybe Mom is anxiously looking for her. Just a theory, of course.

Oh my goodness! what an interesting day! thank you rick for rescuing the ospreyThank You. I do hope she is released as soon as possible- and thank you Gerard for your story regarding not throwing the osprey into the air but providing them a vantage point from which to go. I guess if we see three chicks on the nest soon after her release we'll know band or not.

ETA - A repeat of what you captured gd - I must've been preparing my posts while you had posted yours. Smile
It's so good to see Mom back at the nest. With the arrival of the juvie and Mom together, one can only hope the juvie was out learning from Mom.

Has anyone been watching? I've been doing something else with the cam up, and I thought the chick who had the fish initially moved off and the other one got it - but I couldn't stop what I was doing to confirm that. I do know that it's getting dark, and there's only one chick on the nest, and it has the fish. Smile

Yes, JudyB, this is what I've captured on s'caps. There was a strange exchange of the fish.

8:41pm - Chick at 4 has the fish.

8:42pm - Owner of the fish moves across the nest to 8, but the fish is left behind. It may have got stuck in the groove at the edge.

8:43pm - Chick from 12 realizes the fish is free at 4 and moves in for the steal.

Once original owner realizes she no longer has the fish, she flies off.

Thanks so much, lovetheO's - I did notice that the original owner seemed to be having a very hard time getting it unstuck so she could carry it around the nest. I'm guessing that the other one was hungry enough to eat it where it was - and eventually it looks as if it did pull free.

Looks like one sleepy chick, with part of a fish close at hand.

Have a good evening!
