Thank you Rick for posting that. I hope it all goes well and the bird can be released super quick! JD sorry to hear about that rescued bird not making it - I have heard a lot that osprey just don't do well in captivity.

Cool captures Jury and JD and BET.....thank you!

Good Luck Rick...

That is a nice size fish the Osprey is guarding at 9 but doesn't seem interested in eating it..

fingers crossedthe trapped Osprey will be alright.... all we can do is hope and pray....

JD....It is always sad when we read about any bird dying...:cry1: I don't think they ever determined the cause of death of the fledging in Montana... that happened after it fledged from the Dunrovin Nest if my memory serves me right...if it is the same one you are talking about.....

A couple of years back OWL took in an Osprey. It was sent to them via airline in a dog crate. They - OWL - rehabbed it and sent it back to the place where it was captured.

It can be done - If the Calgary Wildlife Rescue would like some advice on the handling of this Osprey, I am sure OWL will be more than willing to help

JKR, or Judy B - maybe you can email Rick with some advice I note he has an email address attached to his post.

11:40 am Still on the nest with her prize as in your post, Bev. Wonder if she feels insecure at eating without a sibling nearby guarding as one of these O's seemed to sometimes wait and then begin eating when her big sister came in.

Seems strange to just sit there with such a big fish exposed though - nothing like tempting fate. Oh My

I wonder if this is the chick that was a bit unnerved by the magpies earlier - though they don't seem to be around at the moment.

As to the rescue, we don't know that the osprey in question is injured so I am really hoping that it doesn't need care.fingers crossed

Yes, BET, Bev at OWL is so good and I think that they have the necessary flight cages as well as the knowledge and experience to deal with an osprey. Still have fingers crossed and hoping for a good outcome.Red Heart

11:59 am Youngster still at 8 and no move to eat the fish. Puzzled

This was from 11:20 - just getting a chance to post. I think our chick had a dilemma - protect her lunch - or chase the magpie?

She wisely chose to stay with the fish, and the magpie flew off a moment later.

Rick - if you would like contact info for OWL - please do let me or jkr know. I'm hoping it will be a quick rescue, check-up and release - but if the osprey does need additional care, I'm sure Bev Day from OWL would be happy to tell whoever will be doing the rehab what worked for them, if it's not something the local group has done before.
