It's not often we've seen these chicks so full that they've let a fish go uneaten this long. Mom is going to have to cut back on the food supply or they'll never leave home.

11:06pm..........Good morning everyone! One chick still crouched over top of his fish. He really does not want to leave it. The chick looks wet and quite uncomfortable. Judy, it is a real puzzle.............we want enough food brought to the nest so they stay healthy but we also want Mom not to bring so much so they start to become more independent too! Puzzled

11:10pm.........I see that a 2nd one has arrived. But the 1st one is still staying on that fish!

I watch the Hellgate cam - simply adore the closeups and the educating comments on their face book page. This am they have an image of the feathers of the youngest chick. They explained that the horizontal bars shown on these feathers are "hunger bars" or stress bars and can be caused by lack of sufficent food even for just one day. I copied the image here for education purposes. http://www.facebook.com/pages/Osprey-Ca ... 2613556909 to read further.

I would surely like to see a close up of our chicks feathers to see what damage was done from their several days without food.

All three home.

I think it is chick 3 with the fish and that fish has become his "security blanket"

12:53-12:57 pm Our fish-let had a PS, then started eating his footstool aka security blankie -(Your s'caps brought to mind a surf board) giggle and now she is back to holding it down in the near left corner of the nest. I don't know how long she can remain there without a flyabout, she must be stiff by now!

Her sibs have joined her for the last while, it is still pretty cool and blustery though the rain has stopped. I'm not sure that we will reach even double digits today unless the sun comes out later on. The early part of next week will bring back summer weather for a short time at least , thank goodness.

1:33 pm The three remain in the nest, several times they have looked up and at 1:14pm they all had their heads up and were fluttering their wings, - a threat? Quiet now though.
