4:28 pm Another steal attempt was thwarted though not for want of trying. Though he has eaten plenty our youngster will not share, the word is not in his vocabulary.

4:32 pm I looked away and now see one eating at six. Did someone finally succeed in the snatch and grab? That would be nice.

Chapter 2

As promised - I waded through the fish scuffle that occurred after The Boss (chick #1) escorted the visitor off

3:10:02pm

The visitor is not done - she makes a fly by - perhaps to say,"This isn't over yet - I'll be back!"

I think it must have been a snatch of the meal, JD. I can't imagine that there was food just sitting on the nest waiting to be eaten while the other 2 chicks stood around

JKR, is it possible the other juvie was a from last season? I know nothing about the plumage development on Osprey.

I won't be last years chick because they don't come back from migration until a year and a half after they migrate south.
It could be a chick from two years ago but most likely it is one the same age as these because he has the same mottled colouring. A year old or two year old osprey chick would have the same colouring as the adults. Their plummage changes much more rapidly than bald eagles.

4:54pm......Well that was indeed an interesting sequence of events this afternoon! That 4th osprey in the nest certainly stirred up the mix, so to speak! I guess that sort of think happens from time to time. At White Rock this year the eagles also had an intruder in the nest a few times and the parents were actually feeding it sometimes. Naturally, that did not last for long. It makes you wonder how many juvies are out there that need a little extra food, for some unknown reason.

The chick at the bottom of the screen continues to eat while one chick looks on. The other one doesn't seem too interested.

And for Girard

After the Boss returned, she took off again - returning in a few moments

She immediately made a pass at the fish #2 was eating. #2 Defended successfully - not a real confrontation. Meanwhile #3 is staying at the front of the nest avoiding the scene

Boss then goes after the fish with all she has - A flurry of wings and Boss gets a talon on the fish and drags it towards herself

#2 is not going to give it up - tugging - shoving - flailing of wings - a moment in time the fish is in view with two legs of opposing contenders being stretched to the max

My eyes got tired - The struggle for the fish went on - #3 decided to join the fray and made it even more confusing. But in the end the Winner was The Boss.

While I was struggling to sort this out - I noted a couple of more physical discussions going on over the fish - and now at 4:59pm One - but I don't know who - is still working on it at the front of the nest.
