Turned on the camera and had one of those moments when you hold your breath --- Mom was actually laying in the nest cup and my first thought was that maybe we had an egg. Nope ! It was a practice run.

Dad arrived almost right away.

Got busy watching another camera and glimpsed a mating taking place here and missed the sc'ap.
Dad then promptly flew off.

Judy - Do you have a record of when eggs were laid in previous years? I looked back over my records and they are weird - my older records don't
start until June close to hatching time and then one more recent year the cam must have been down because I have big skips in May and no record of first egg.

Sorry I didn't keep records handy for this nest. I think the reason you have some records beginning in June is because the camera didn't always broadcast early in the season.

We didn't have archive access for the first year because that was before we had our own forum and we were using Infotec's forum.

I know in 2007 there were three eggs -- all hatched. One chick died after a brutal hailstorm when it was about two weeks old. I don't recall whether we got to see them fledge. I think that was the year we lost the camera after a storm. Soundguy from Calgary used to go to the river to watch the osprey and then post updates for us.

2008 --- three eggs --- three chicks -- all fledged successfully if I recall.

2009 -- three eggs -- three chicks --- camera kept going down a lot that year.

Anything we do have as records is either in the old forum

Dad is tackling that big shrub again and of course it won't cooperate. He would have been better off leaving it on the ground where he found it.

Dad left the nest and Mom laid in the bowl for only a moment.

Intruder --- Mom is up flapping at an intruder, which I am almost sureis another osprey, which she chased off. Someone is trying to invade their territory and she is not happy. BET, did you happen to be recording this ?

Not sure yet if this is Mom or Dad who returned to the nest. --- It's Mom

I wasn't recording. I was cleaning up breakfast stuff and the nest was empty. I turned to see an Osprey fly off the nest and Mom land - both were in view on the cam at the same time - it was that close. By the time I could get to the computer to start recording - Mom was in defensive mode, but no other O came back into view.

She's still on high alert - it's also raining. I do have the recorder going now. I will leave it on as I can't sit and watch closely today.
