Yesterday's update from Alcoa---

Monday, July 09, 2012

Power Breakfast
Just when I thought I might not see everyone together, our security camera picked up the image below early this morning. One of the parents and all three of the young eagles on the ground in an open field just west of the nest tree. It appeared at least one of the young ones was eating something. I can tell you from walking around the grounds recently, it is clear they have had several meals on the ground leaving some fur and some feathers in a few piles in different locations.

A real short report from Alcoa----

Still Here
I was down at the nest for just a little while today. I did not see anyone around, then off to the far side of the property I spotted one of the parents taking a spin. I was not close enough to get a very good shot...but I did take this picture.

For those interested, my local vendor is still working on the t-shirts. I hope to have something for you soon.

A Friday the 13th report from our friend at Alcoa----

Friday, July 13, 2012

Camera Update
Here is the deal on the camera. It has not worked since that lightning storm back around June 29th. Our technical folks have tried a number of things from the ground to reset the camera and it has not worked. The only other option is to go up and repair or replace the camera. We are hoping to do that in the next two weeks. We have ordered a new camera so when we bring the old one down, if it can be repaired we will use it as a backup in the future.

Many of you have asked about t-shirts. My local vendor is working on this and we hope to have that ready to go in the next couple of weeks. Once it is ready, we will place a link on the main Alcoa EagleCam page.

I took a trip to the nest this morning and was not able to spot any of our group in the short time I was there. I did however see a flock (right word?) of pelicans, a couple of hawks and an empty turtle shell on the ground below the nest.

Have a great weekend!

Note from Alcoa----

Monday, July 16, 2012

Unique Visitor
I was at the nest today with some folks from the Bettendorf School District. They are working on some educational materials based on eagles. We did see one of the "babies" for a brief moment, but did not get a picture.

Camera Update
The replacement camera has arrived and the lift to get our folks up to the tree is in place. We hope to have the new camera online this week.

FINALLY! The new cam has been installed! Very Happy

The news from Alcoa----

Camera installation
We had an Alcoa maintenance crew up in the lift a couple of times today placing the new camera above the nest. We actually had it online for a short period of time this morning. I'm not sure we will have it back online today...it may take until Monday or Tuesday to do some of the fine tuning...but it should be back next week at the latest. Below are a couple of shots today while the crew was working 80 feet above the ground to remove the old camera and install the new one.
