To Richard's family and friends:

I never met Richard. But I've felt like I knew him for years. From the very beginnings of HWF he was the go-to techie guy - we always knew that when the cams went down, he would do his magic and they would come back again for us all to enjoy. He was Richard BeakPitt...and to me, he'll always be Richard BeakPitt - friend to all of us here, friend of wildlife, magic man with the computers of HWF. Oh how he will be missed - I only wish I had gotten to meet him personally.

I am so sorry for your loss, for our loss, for the huge loss that we all feel...I have so many friends now that I would not have had without the wonderful world of HWF that he helped create. I hope that you can take comfort in knowing that he did so much for so many and that we will never, ever forget him. He was a friend to our wildlife, and a friend to us all.

See you soon, Richard, friend. You have been an inspiration to me in your quiet caring demeanor and smile.

Gone From My Sight

I am standing upon the seashore. A ship, at my side,
spreads her white sails to the moving breeze and starts
for the blue ocean. She is an object of beauty and strength.
I stand and watch her until, at length, she hangs like a speck
of white cloud just where the sea and sky come to mingle with each other.

Then, someone at my side says, "There, she is gone"

Gone where?

Gone from my sight. That is all. She is just as large in mast,
hull and spar as she was when she left my side.
And, she is just as able to bear her load of living freight to her destined port.

Her diminished size is in me -- not in her.
And, just at the moment when someone says, "There, she is gone,"
there are other eyes watching her coming, and other voices
ready to take up the glad shout, "Here she comes!"

And that is dying...
