Goodmorning Everyone

Judy/jkr and I are in the Delta area for OWL's Open House this weekend. Yesterday we stopped by to see Bev and Ralph and while there we were able to see Mom and Dad DeltlaOwl actively trying to build a new nest in a nearby tree. Mom was in the "new" tree and Dad was in the "old" nest tree trying to entice her over. Their bond and communication seems stronger than ever as they spent some time flying together in circles, sometimes landing in one tree then the other, not to mention the conversation between the two. Bev sees them everyday and this is the reason no attempt has been made to repair the old nest. Possibly in the fall when the eagles have migrated they'll see what can be done.

There doesn't seem to be as many eagles in the area as last year.

Just a small note on the Delta1 nest. It remains empty...see David's article in the Wildlife news....Eagle in the Taxi.
However, Bev is sure that DeltaDan is in the area, as she knows he was a "small" male and there is definitely one around.

I have some pictures and will post when I return to Nanaimo.

I visited the O.W.L. open house and some of the Delta nests yesterday accompanied by jkr, sandra, and sassyk. Unfortunately it was a very wet grey day so I did not get a lot of decent photos but here are a few:

Ma and Pa seem to have started a new nest nearby - probably too late for nesting this year

Later we saw both Ma and Pa circling around together over the area

these 2 pair have endeared my heart. Especially Delta 1 eagles.

I will pray for success for both of them next year.

I don't know if this is the place to post this picture, or if it should be anywhere on the forum (monitors feel free to delete) but I've been organizing my files and finding photos that were long forgotten. Since there have been several references to Boundary Bay, I thought I'd show everyone what it looks like.
The bluff on the left is Crescent Beach; just to the right of that is Mount Baker in Washington State and way off in the distance is Vancouver Island. This photo was taken at the foot of 72nd Street, less than 1 mile from the OWL property. The dog is my dalmatian, Mickey, who has since passed on. We would go down there on nice days so she could play in the water and I could, well, just sit and admire the scenery.

Although you can't see them in this picture the number of waterfowl down there is amazing - seagulls, herons, dunlins, hawks, owls and eagles. It's a good place for all of them because the water is quite shallow and when the tide goes out the beach, and all of its tidal pools, stretches for about 1 mile.
